Yancoal grants Hunter Valley funding boost

Yancoal operation Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) has granted over $190,000 in community funding in a bid to make a positive difference in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley.

A total of 27 community groups and events will share the funding across areas such as health, social and community, environment, and education and training.

MTW is also planning to leverage its partnership with the University of Newcastle to continue to help bring the Science and Engineering Challenge and SMART Science shows to those in the Upper Hunter.

“Community groups are the backbone of our community, and we value the important contribution they make to maintaining and creating a strong and sustainable community,” MTW general manager Cris Shadbolt said.

“This funding will enable equipment and facility upgrades, fund local events, education initiatives, technology updates, new health-related gear, training, outdoor facilities and arts programs.”

Successful organisation include the Maitland Saints AFL club, Hunter Valley Amateur Bee Keeping Association, and Rural Fire Service for Bowthorne/Hinton, among many others.

“These are just a snapshot of the diverse range of community groups in the Hunter Valley,” Shadbolt said.

“However, they all have a common purpose of making a positive impact on the community where we live and work. Supporting them financially is a perfect fit for us.”

Singleton Mountain Bike Club president Nigel Robinson said the group was thankful for the support which will allow them to update their outdoor searing area.

“As a club, we bring people together for some action-packed fun on the mountain trails and we are thrilled we can now improve our eating area so riders can stay longer,” Robinson said.
