China’s XCMG says it has marked a significant milestone in Chile’s high-end mining sector by deploying its cranes at Codelco’s Chuquicamata, one of the world’s largest and oldest open-pit copper mines, which has been in operation for over a century.
XCMG: “Known for its strict equipment standards, Chuquicamata is considered a benchmark in global mining. XCMG’s entry into this iconic mine brings advanced Chinese technology and reliable service to the heart of the global mining industry, further advancing the international reach of Chinese brands.”
The successful deployment it says follows years of trust and collaboration. “Close communication between XCMG and its partners laid the foundation for this achievement. The XCMG fleet, which includes the latest all-terrain cranes, rough-terrain tire cranes, and hybrid models, is designed to tackle extreme mining conditions.”
XCMG says these machines, known for their superior lifting capacity and stability, are tailored to meet the mining sector’s demands for efficiency and safety. “Their excellent mobility and adaptability to complex terrains allow them to swiftly relocate across the vast mining site, ensuring reliable, all-weather lifting support for operations.”
It adds that local customers have expressed high praise for XCMG’s performance and services, recognising them as world-class. “This recognition underscores XCMG’s commitment to quality and reliability.
XCMG adds that its long-standing presence in the South American mining market is built on years of local investment. Since 2004, it has expanded from municipal construction and rail transit projects to offering a full range of equipment, including cranes, excavators, and mining trucks, “thereby earning trust and solidifying its market position.”
Established in 2014, XCMG Chile has built a national service network and a professional team to ensure fast customer response and direct service. In recent years, XCMG says its market share has steadily grown, and its brand influence continues to rise in the mining sector. “XCMG’s continued success in Chile reflects its commitment to bringing ‘China’s solutions’ to global markets, earning the trust of customers and contributing to the region’s industrial growth.”
Aside from this new development with Codelco, XCMG’s XDE130 rigid mining truck is already being used in Chile, including during development of Pucobre’s El Espino copper mine – the mine will open in 2027 with an 18 year life, producing 26,000 t of copper and 13,000 oz of gold annually.
