Robotaxi companies just keep growing and growing, expanding into more and more cities. One of the Chinese leaders, WeRide, is the latest to make a move. It is about to launch in tech-haven Singapore in collaboration with Grab.
The robotaxi service is being named Ai.R (which stands for Autonomously Intelligent Ride). There will be 11 robotaxi in the network to start.
This will be the first robotaxi service in Singapore serving residential areas. WeRide’s Robotaxi GXR (up to 5 passengers) and Robobus (up to 8 passengers) will be used for the robotaxi service initially. They will include Grab safety operators as the robotaxi service gets rolling.
Also, notably, WeRide joined the Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index today. The company hopes joining that index will hope its visibility and bring in more investment. The stock joined Nasdaq on October 25, 2024.
Previously, WeRide launched autonomous streetsweepers in Singapore, and autonomous shuttle buses were launched for Grab employees last month, in collaboration with autonomous driving company Autonomous A2Z.
