In partnership with GreenBiz and Resilient Cities Network, the Verizon Climate Resilience Prize empowers companies that are using advanced technology and have demonstrated results of their climate resilience solutions with funding and business support so they can scale and reach more in-need communities. Based in Berkeley, California, the Perimeter Platform was selected as a 2023 winner for its all-risk solution that supports information sharing and collaboration (during a climate crisis) across disciplines, jurisdictional boundaries, and with the public. Perimeter’s unique solution provides integrated support throughout the lifecycle of an incident, from initial response through recovery.
One critical aspect of climate resilience is being able to respond quickly to changing circumstances. Originally from Santa Rosa, California (an area that has been evacuated several times from wildfires), the founders of the Perimeter platform have experienced firsthand the challenges associated with incident response, evacuation management, and disaster notification. One of the biggest obstacles at the onset of a natural disaster is obtaining real-time updates and distributing pertinent information to the public in a timely manner. Better communication and evacuation management tools allow communities to respond better, adapt, and survive natural disasters caused by climate disruption.
Fortunately, we live in the postmodern era where technology can be improved and better leveraged to access and share critical information when seconds really do count. Perimeter developed real-time evacuation management/disaster notification software accessible to all types of first responders and the public. The Perimeter platform serves as a single source for updating incident information in real time, empowering emergency managers to spend less time sharing information and more time taking action. Designed to work hand-in-hand with first responders and various agencies’ existing workflows and legacy systems, as opposed to replacing them and/or forcing agencies to learn something new (or start over entirely) This is what differentiates Perimeter from other alert systems/platforms.

To date, Perimeter is deployed in many communities that are experiencing high wildfire and flood risks across California. Now, with funds received from the Verizon Climate Resilience Prize, Perimeter is looking to scale its operations to regions with high hurricane risks, such as Southeast Florida.
