US Gold secures air quality permit for CK Gold Project in US

US Gold subsidiary Gold King has obtained the final air quality permit from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) for the CK Gold Project.

The permit allows the company to progress the project from exploration to development.

The CK Gold Project, initially known as Copper King, has evolved significantly since a preliminary economic assessment in 2012, with optimised prefeasibility studies now under way.

In 2020, US Gold shifted its focus from pure exploration of its prospective assets in Nevada and Idaho to the development of the CK Gold Project.

In August 2020, the management team of US Gold commenced the development of the CK Gold Project.

The site, which had not been actively mined for a century, underwent a transformation from its dormant state. The last study, a preliminary economic assessment, was conducted by Mine Development Associates in 2012.

With the air quality permit now secured, US Gold is advancing with an optimised prefeasibility study for the CK Gold Project.

This study is crucial for the project’s development, following the suspension of feasibility study work by Samuel Engineering in March 2023.

The suspension of the feasibility study by Samuel Engineering was a strategic decision by US Gold.

According to the company, the study could become outdated by the time permit approvals were granted.

Additionally, disruptions in price and supply chains due to the Covid-19 pandemic, along with modifications following the WDEQ’s review, necessitated a fresh approach to the project’s assessment.

The company noted that the engineering work for the CK Gold Project is well under way, with the process plant design nearly complete.

US Gold president, director and CEO George Bee said: “WDEQ’s approval of the Air Quality Permit satisfies the remaining condition associated with the mine operating permit granted in April 2024, completing a major hurdle in the CK Gold Project’s pathway to development.

“We are well advanced in our engineering studies and poised to move toward development once the optimisation studies announced in September are complete.”

In May this year, Gold King received a conditional surface mining permit for its CK Gold Project from the WDEQ.
