Urban Arrow FamilyNext Pro: A Smarter, Smoother Ride For The Modern Family - CleanTechnica

Urban Arrow has just unveiled its newest electric cargo bike, the FamilyNext Pro, and it’s built with a bold goal in mind: helping families replace their second car. Designed for daily school runs, grocery trips, and everything in between, the FamilyNext Pro builds on the brand’s popular Family line with smarter tech, better comfort, and more thoughtful details for family life on two wheels.

Smarter, Safer, & More Comfortable

The FamilyNext Pro is powered by the Bosch Cargo Line Smart System, a powerful pedal-assist motor that helps riders cruise up to 20 mph (32 km/h) through its Gates belt drivetrain. Whether you’re hauling kids, groceries, or both, the motor provides strong (85Nm) and steady support, which is particularly useful when the cargo box is fully loaded.

Urban Arrow also added a front suspension fork for a smoother ride, making it more comfortable for both rider and passengers when carrying kids over bumpy city streets. In the back, a higher seatback and an easy-to-use one-handed seatbelt system make it simpler (and safer) to buckle children in and out. For visibility and nighttime safety, the front cargo box now includes integrated LED reflectors so that it stands out to other road users.

Built For Real-Life Family Use

This e-cargo bike is meant to be a full-blown family vehicle. The cargo box can seat up to four children, including infants as young as three months (with appropriate accessories). The entry design is lower and easier to navigate, making daily errands with kids more efficient and less stressful.

With a total payload capacity of 550 pounds (250 kg), the FamilyNext Pro can easily manage heavy loads, whether that’s multiple children, groceries, or gear. And thanks to the 545 Wh Bosch battery, riders can expect solid range for typical urban commuting needs (exact mileage will vary with load and terrain).

Smart Features & Clean Aesthetics

Urban Arrow is offering the FamilyNext Pro in black or green, with a sleek, rounded cargo box that not only looks great, but also improves aerodynamics and safety. For riders who want extra peace of mind, the bike is compatible with the optional Bosch ConnectModule, which adds GPS tracking, theft alerts, and the ability to remotely lock the motor.

The FamilyNext Pro looks to be a major step forward in family-focused e-mobility. With its enhanced comfort, advanced Bosch system, improved security features, and high load capacity, Urban Arrow positions this e‑cargo bike not just as an accessory, but as a genuine replacement for your second car. It’s designed to meet real-life family needs, offering reliability, safety, and a smoother ride for those daily adventures.

“With FamilyNext Pro, we’re giving families a smarter way to move through the city — without the stress of traffic, car seats, or parking. It’s not just about getting from A to B. It’s about gaining time, freedom, and everyday moments with your little ones — even starting as early as three months old. This bike turns routines into meaningful time together.”  — Mark Danhof, General Manager of Urban Arrow North America

On the downside, it also costs as much as a (used) second car, being priced at US$8,999 (CA$12,499), and at more than 8½ feet long and weighing well over 100 pounds, it just might need its own dedicated parking spot, as wrangling it up stairs or from inside to outside on the regular would be a pain in the neck. However, for those who live in places with great bike infrastructure, plus easy and secure parking at home, and are willing and able to invest almost $10K in low carbon pedal-powered transport, the FamilyNext Pro might very well be a great minivan replacement.
