UC Berkeley’s Sutardja Center Features Catalyze Partners’ Corporate Investment Model

DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Catalyze Partners has been recognized by the University of California Berkeley’s Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) as a pioneer in Corporate Innovation Capital (CIC), an alternative asset strategy for introducing innovative technologies into the marketplace. CIC leverages multinational corporations’ extensive R&D investments, applying startup methods to launch innovations into commercial markets.

“This journey began with a simple idea, aiming to create a straightforward path to generating startup value,” said Joe D’Cruz, Co-founder and Managing Director of Catalyze Partners. “Our approach has successfully built a portfolio of technology and IP sourced from leading corporate R&D labs, confirming our belief that there was untapped potential in these labs. Having our model recognized and validated by one of Silicon Valley’s top institutions is incredibly rewarding.”

Since 2014, Catalyze’s seasoned executive team has partnered with global corporations like Lockheed Martin and IBM. The SCET whitepaper highlights how these collaborations enable investors to benefit uniquely from the CIC model, receiving founder-level ownership in substantially de-risked technologies compared to traditional venture capital.

“The landscape of venture capital is evolving, prompting investors to contemplate alternative asset investment,” writes Ken Singer, Managing Director of SCET. “CIC emerges as a pragmatic new asset class, offering reduced risk exposure, unique access to mature technology, founder-level economics, and professional management from the outset.”

Catalyze demonstrated early success with the CIC model, transferring IP into three companies and attracting significant family office investments with the opportunity for exclusive access to pre-invested intellectual property and the potential of majority ownership stakes in each portfolio company. Catalyze recently announced the addition of Axcend, the fourth company in the portfolio.
