Toyoda Gosei’s High-Pressure Hydrogen Tank to be Used on Passenger Ship

Moving toward hydrogen use in all types of mobility

KIYOSU, Japan–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:7282)’s high-pressure hydrogen tanks are being used on a passenger ship* powered by hydrogen and other environmentally-friendly energy. These large hydrogen tanks employ the hydrogen storage technology developed by Toyoda Gosei and Toyota Motor Corporation for the MIRAI fuel cell vehicle, which previously have used mainly on trucks and other commercial vehicles. This latest use on a vessel operated by MOTENA-Sea, a company in which Mitsui OSK Lines and others have invested, is in a form of hydrogen storage modules made by Toyota Motor that combine multiple large tanks so that larger amounts of hydrogen can be stored and transported efficiently and conveniently.

The use of hydrogen is promising for all forms of mobility, from automobiles to motorcycles, vessels, and railways. Through the provision of tanks and modules suited to the onboard hydrogen needs of all types of mobility, Toyoda Gosei will continue contributing to the wider use of hydrogen in society.

* The HANARIA passenger vessel is equipped with both hydrogen fuel cells and biodiesel fueled generators. MOTENA-Sea will begin operating the HANARIA in April 2024.
