Tonly delivers all electric wide body truck fleet to CMOC – International Mining

On October 21, Chinese wide-body mining truck major Tonly Heavy Industries delivered a new fleet of all battery electric 75 t payload TLE120 trucks to CMOC, headquartered in Luanchuan County near Luoyang City in Henan. CMOC is one of the world’s largest producers of molybdenum as well as tungsten, niobium, phosphate, gold and cobalt.

Tonly said the new fleet is contributing to the construction of green mines and that both sides were working together strategically, pushing the ‘green acceleration button.’

CMOC first bought diesel 60 t class trucks from Tonly in 2019, which the OEM says started a chapter of mutual trust and win-win cooperation between the two sides. Hundreds of the company’s wide-body vehicles are now in use in different climates and working conditions at a number of CMOC minesites which include its flagship Sandaozhuang and Shangfanggou molybdenum mines in China. It also has operations in the DRC, Brazil and Ecuador.

The performance of Tonly trucks has been proven in particular with CMOC by the longevity of the TL889A truck chassis, with leading reliability and adaptability, reducing maintenance costs and risk of failure. The TLE120 is equipped with a three-layer plate flexible chassis where load bearing capacity and impact resistance are significantly improved compared to traditional chassis. It can easily cope with uneven road conditions in the mine and extend the vehicle’s service life.

The 770 kW CATL lithium iron phosphate batteries are equipped with high-capacity water cooling and heat management systems to ensure that the batteries work steadily in different temperature environments and have a strong long-range battery life, meeting the long-term continuous operation needs of the mine. Under heavy load downhill construction, energy recovery can be achieved, and energy utilisation rate can be improved. Compared with traditional fuel vehicles, the operating cost is greatly reduced, and the economy advantages of long-term use are prominent. The truck uses Suzhou LEOG Motor Technology EM500 drive motors and a four speed Shaanxi Fast Gear transmission.

A fourth generation cab has FOPS/ROPS protection while the braking system combines mechanical main braking, electric feedback braking, electrical brakes and emergency braking to steadily control the speed even on steep roads. A fully hydraulic steering system developed specifically for mines improves the response speed by 30%, makes steering more precise and lighter, reduces driver fatigue and improves operational efficiency. The rear suspension structure enhances the truck’s ability to cope with extreme turns and resists rollovers, providing greater stability when driving on curved or rolling haul roads.
