Tivan has signed a heads of agreement with Glen Hill Pastoral Aboriginal Corporation (GHPAC) to enhance regional collaboration around Tivan’s Speewah project in the east Kimberley region of Western Australia.
GHPAC is an Aboriginal owned and operated cattle business that is focused on building benefits for Aboriginal communities and people including through employment and training opportunities.
The business also holds the Glen Hill Pastoral lease and is the sole sub-lessee of the Doon Doon Pastoral lease, which are both located in proximity to Speewah.
Under the new agreement, Tivan and GHPAC will explore opportunities around early work programs for Speewah such as the access road from the Great Northern Highway to the Speewah fluorite and vanadium deposits.
It will also explore shared infrastructure that benefits Speewah and the Pastoral leases, local indigenous employment pathways through different phases of Speewah, and commercial synergies between the proposed mining and processing operations at Speewah and Pastoral lease activities.
“Over the past year, Tivan has established a strong working relationship with Glen Hill Pastoral Aboriginal Corporation,” Tivan executive chairman Grant Wilson said.
“We are delighted to formalise our collaborative efforts today, embedding principles of coexistence and cooperation on country as the Speewah fluorite project takes shape.”
The new heads of agreement follows Tivan and CSIRO completing a development testwork program for the TIVAN+ critical minerals processing technology, where outcomes “exceeded expectations”.
The Sppewah project hosts two separate critical minerals deposits: fluorite and vanadium.
Fluorite is used to produce commercial grade fluorspar products and fluorine. There is currently no domestic fluorspar or fluorine production in Australia. The Federal Government added fluorine to the Australian critical minerals list late last year.
Vanadium is also considered a critical mineral, with its demand expected to grow due to its increasing use in renewable energy storage systems like redox flow batteries.
