Following up our report on the top selling electric vehicle models in Europe, here’s a report on the auto brands and auto groups selling the most plugin vehicles in Europe.

Looking at the the overall brand market in November, the best selling make with highest growth rate was #18 Cupra, with a 24% growth rate. On the opposite side, #15 Tesla was down by 28% YoY. But there are other brands in worse form, like Fiat, which cratered 40% YoY in November, part of that due to the end of production of the ICE Fiat 500.

As for the plugin auto brand ranking, Tesla was down in November (10.6% in November vs. 10.8% in October), but it secured enough distance to win yet another title this year, its third in a row. Still, compared to the previous year, its share eroded significantly (it had 12% share twelve months ago). So, looking at 2025, the US make will have a harder time renewing the title.

Fortunately for the American automaker, though, Mercedes and BMW will only be at full speed with their new models in 2026 (Mercedes CLA/GLC & BMW i3/iX3), and the same is true for the cheaper models coming from Volkswagen Group (VW ID.2, etc.). So, Tesla will start the 2025 race as favorites. In 2026, however….

Behind the US make, only Volkswagen gained share, going from 7.3% in October to its current 7.5%. The Wolfsburg make is recovering, but it is still behind its 2023 score, so expect Mercedes to end 2024 on the podium after a two-year absence.

With Volkswagen having been on the European podium almost every year since 2015 (with the exception being 2019), the German brand is expected to end this year in 5th.

Arranging things by automotive group, Volkswagen Group is in the lead, with 21.5% share (up from 21.2% in October), with almost double the share of #2 BMW Group (11%, down 0.1%).

Tesla (10.6%) retained 3rd place in November, and with the expected end-of-quarter peak, the US make should keep its bronze medal away from #4 Stellantis (10.5%) and #5 Geely–Volvo (10.4%).
