Following Hurricane Helene, I had difficulty getting a dual-motor e-bike shipped to me in Asheville that I so wanted to review. So, as it went back to the company after more than a week of not being able to be delivered in devastated Western North Carolina, they shipped me another similar one. I had it shipped to my home away from home in Tacoma, Washington, at my daughter and son-in-law’s house near Fox Island and Mount Olympus. Once shipped, we received it in 2–3 days.

My disappointment did not last long as I saw the look in my son-in-law’s face as I asked him to help me assemble it and also share in the review. He took a look at the LANKELEISI MG740PLUS Dual Motor Electric Bike* and he was jazzed. My son-in-law Matt can assemble almost anything. He is also an avid bicyclist. Micromobility was already a passion in this family, and conserving CO2 emissions. I have watched him and his dog bicycling down the street with my granddaughter Zoey on the hoverboard, whizzing along as well. Matt’s eyes lit up on seeing this e-bike.

This wonderful foldable bicycle never made it to Asheville due to the hurricane slowing deliveries. It is definitely the one I was interested in. Another time, perhaps. Image courtesy of LANKELEISI — X3000 MAX 2000W Dual Motor Foldable Electric Mountain Bike.

The bicycle was promptly assembled by Matt and my granddaughter Zoey (and her trusty wrench). One or both of them will be enjoying the new micromobility option around Tacoma — getting more time away from car culture. This is the strongest bicycle I’ve ridden to far. It’s also extremely powerful.

Powerful to Conquer All Terrain

The dual-motor ebike is able to master the off-road, unpaved roads in mountainous places that require certain traction and stability. My daughter’s extended family has multiple homes on Fox Island, so we intend to share our journey up the dusty, irregular, rocky mountain roads to the magnificent Puget Sound. Matt is definitely up for the journey, knowing the combination of steep on- and off-road trails up to his grandparents’ house — as well as down to the sound.

With so many support systems and abilities built into the bicycle, there are endless possibilities for car-free commutes and outdoor excursions. This bicycle is heavy, so pedal assist options and the ability to use one or two motors are appreciated if not essential. This is my first time working with dual motors. This bicycle has a variety of options for speed and amount of assistance, and employing both motors promises to provide dependable, unusual traction and an off-road advantage on tough hills and mountains.

“The Lankeleisi MG740PLUS is equipped with 1000W brushless motors on the front and rear and is paired with 26*4.0 fat tires to easily conquer any terrain, whether it’s a muddy or snowy section. The MG740plus is equipped with a 48V 20AH removable Samsung battery and has a riding range of 150km with pedal assistance and 70km in purely electric conditions.”

Here are some more details:

  • 70~150 km (43~93 miles) per charge
  • 960Wh total battery capacity
  • 48V 3A charger, 5–6 hours fully charged

The Lankeleisi MG740Plus is powered by a 48V 20Ah Samsung battery made up of 18650 cells. Advanced cell technology assures improved durability and longevity, as well as a 960Wh battery that provides a longer range of up to 70km in pure electric mode and 150km with pedal assist. Furthermore, the replaceable battery feature improves convenience by providing easy charging and the ability for riders to swap batteries for longer trips.

As soon as the first rides of the day were run around the neighborhood streets, which include some steep inclines up from the coast high up to the house above, Matt expressed happiness at how much further he will be able to go on this bicycle — how much more endurance he will have at his disposal for longer distances. This was his first experience with a battery on a bike — and what strength.

I’ve been riding and reviewing electric bicycles for years, but I echo his sentiment, “What Strength, What Torque!” During our first trial on grassy and bumpy terrain, we noticed that the low-pressure fat tires provide a smooth ride. It assures me that this will be the case with both motors running as you approach rockier terrain. One will not forgo comfort.

He described the handling as highly intuitive. I concur. The ebike is so responsive, with stability and comfort. The instant torque, of course, is exhilarating — and seems more instantaneous on a bicycle than in the VW ID.4. Which both my daughter and he love.

My son-in-law came back after his jaunt and said a teenager just gave him a sign to indicate how cool the bicycle looks and moves. His daughter, Zoey, might say it’s the perfect Sigma look for her as well — once she gets permission to ride it. These beautiful monster-style bikes take a lot of experience to manage safety. I am sure both she and sister Ruby will eventually do so — going on the immense finesse they show on the battery hoverboard and their regular bikes.

Sigma, from what I gather, means similar to alpha but stealthier and more humble. That might be good for describing this bicycle, except those tires — wow, there is a lot of muscle in those. One might describe the bike and what it’s capable of as a muscle bike. It’s a bit more Alpha. Normally, fat bike tires are 20 inches; these are 26 inches — absolutely able to handle the off-road steep inclines. I’m sure we’ll still get exercise, as the bike is a heavyweight, with power to help when needed. Similar to a recent one I reviewed, yet even better suited to an outdoorsman like my son-in-law. Hardier.

The arrival of this bicycle was the best thing to cheer all of us up as we moved back to our low-impact way of life and voting with our dollars. (The day after the election.) Coming to visit my daughter’s family is always a lesson in the small ways everyday people cut back on fossil fuels and materialism — never expect a paper towel when the house only uses washable cloth napkins, gardens, buys local, composts food, and saves our landfills with a vintage clothes collection.

The second day of testing torque with Matt on the bicycle was captured on camera by Zobelle & Ruby Lynn for everyone to watch.

I am catching some unique details in this French review below as well. If you don’t understand French, use your subtitle option in English.

We tested the ebike on steep ups and downs, but I feel we’ll be even more impressed once we’ve used it on all terrain. I’m sure.

The bike is an Alpha bike with full throttle that can reach speeds of up to 24 miles per hour even without the pedal assistance. On and off the paved road, the bicycle is extraordinarily responsive because of the dual motors & powerful battery. Following more off-road testing, we’ll be back with additional details.

We are going to explore how the maximum range of 150 kilometers (93 miles) translates to severe inclines in Washington state, near Puget Sound and Mount Olympus. The bike has a waterproof rating of IP54, an additional advantage in rainy Washington. Additionally, the battery is changeable and easily detached. After surviving Helene, this is the first thing I glance at. Also, I’d like to underline how useful this bicycle would be after a hurricane. The powerful construction is nonetheless light enough and easy to maneuver in and out of many areas where cars cannot reach in the case of a catastrophe.
