As you have probably seen, Elon Musk, in his dubious, potentially illegal, and not even official role as the head of a fake new government agency, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has put out an ultimatum to federal workers across the US to respond on email with 5 things they’ve accomplished in the past week or they will be fired (well, a non-response will be considered an official resignation). His plan is to use AI to review the millions of responses and decide whether people should be fired or not. Presumably, his team of 20- to 25-year-olds will implement this plan.

Musk has also been an adamant proponent of people having to work from an office environment, not from home or somewhere else outside of a company’s or government agency’s buildings.

The “funny” thing here is that Elon Musk is a top executive at several companies, and he clearly does not work from the office 5 days a week. In fact, it seems extremely unlikely that he’s working more than part time even at Tesla, where he is CEO, let alone at the other companies where he has prominent roles.

A bunch of readers commenting on my article “Tesla Stock Down 24% In Past Month — And Why?” pointed this out humorously by saying that the Tesla board should give Elon Musk the same ultimatum he’s giving US government workers. They should email him:

“Elon Musk, what did you do last week? Provide 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week. If you do not respond by the end of the week, we’ll take that as an official resignation. And we don’t care how busy you are hacking up the US government, we demand a satisfactory response within 5 days. Also, by the way, you need to report to the office and work from Tesla offices and factories 40 hours a week again. In fact, since you are the highest paid CEO in history, we expect you to work 80 hours a week — and none of those can be from home, from the White House, or from US government buildings. Actually, we have reason to believe you’ve been quite negligent of your duties at Tesla — which has been dropping sales rapidly in recent months — and we may have a case to claw back some of the billions of dollars you’ve been paid. On that matter, we are monitoring your social media activity, and we’ve noticed that you’re tweeting 247 times a day on average, and also routinely appear on Twitch and YouTube streams playing video games. Actually, we’ve received word that you’re a world-leading gamer in a couple of video games, and we’d like to know how you made the time to spend so many hours a week playing these video games.

“By the way, with all your time spent in the White House lately, why are the president and Republicans in Congress repeatedly doing things to hurt EV adoption, EV infrastructure, and the US EV industry as a whole? Why is there an effort to pull government support for Tesla’s battery production facilities, EV chargers, and consumer EV subsidies that have been critical to Tesla’s revenue and profits? This is completely against Tesla’s mission and our overall business interests.

“We expect a satisfactory response to all of these matters within 5 days, and we will use an AI system to evaluate your response and decide whether you are still hired or fired at Tesla immediately.

“Additionally, assuming all of the above is performed satisfactorily, we have some urgent matters for you to address. We are bleeding sales and receiving many emails and calls from former Tesla supporters — including from longtime shareholders and multi-car buyers — who are swearing off buying Tesla products again due to your lobbying for political parties associated with neo-Nazism and even performing an apparent Nazi salute (twice) at the inauguration of Donald Trump. Considering these issues and your family’s deep ties to Nazism and apartheid, we need you to make some prominent public statements clearly denouncing Nazism, hate for immigrants and minorities, and harassment of others. On a related note, we need you to clearly state that Russia invaded Ukraine, and Ukraine did not start the ongoing war with Ukraine that has been occurring on Ukrainian soil. We need you to clarify that you do not support Donald Trump siding with Vladimir Putin over our allies in Europe.

“Lastly, we keep getting contacted by ladies who claim to be your baby’s mama, who are demanding paternity tests, who are demanding that you send child support payments, and who simply want you to spend some time with your offspring. Please sort out your personal affairs and keep this sh** separate from your work life.”
