St George continues lithium exploration

St George Mining has restarted lithium exploration at its Mount Alexander project in Western Australia.

Field work is currently underway to test new lithium targets and St George is focusing on an eight kilometre zone around the Manta prospect at the site.

The results are expected back in approximately four weeks.

“We are pleased that our field teams are back on the ground at Mount Alexander to follow-up multiple target areas for lithium mineralisation,” St George executive chairman John Prineas said.

“Significantly, many of these prospects have a similar geological context to the Mount Ida lithium deposit, which is about 15km south-east of Mount Alexander.”

Juno Minerals’ Mount Ida lithium project returned significant results from two phases of soil sampling earlier this month.

Prineas said that initial exploration at Mount Alexander had similarly confirmed the presence of high-grade lithium.

“These results support the potential for a large lithium bearing pegmatite mineral system,” he said.

“Mount Alexander is located in a very favourable position within the Mount Ida lithium province, which has fast emerged over the past 12 months as a lithium hot spot that has delivered material exploration success and attracted significant M&A (mergers and acquisitions) activity.

“We are excited to be ramping up exploration at Mount Alexander with the support of some of the most important global companies in lithium-ion batteries – ATL, Shanghai Jayson, Sunwoda Electronic and SVOLT – and look forward to reporting exploration results in the coming weeks.”
