SGS says it has successfully relocated its commercial mining laboratory in Ankara to a new, larger facility, strengthening its ability to support the growing needs of the mining sector in Türkiye and beyond.
The strategic move enhances SGS’s operational capacity. It expands the range of geochemical solutions offered, enabling closer collaboration with mining companies headquartered in Ankara and it says improving service delivery across the mining value chain.
Located in Ankara’s largest organised industrial zone, the new facility benefits from robust infrastructure and a central position that allows faster and more efficient support for exploration and mining projects throughout Türkiye, the Balkans, and the Middle East.
Currently staffed by more than 50 full-time laboratory and office personnel, the upgraded facility houses advanced instrumentation, including:
- Fire assay and cupellation furnaces
- ICP-OES and ICP-MS spectrometry
- Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS)
- LECO carbon and sulphur analysis
- Portable and laboratory XRF instruments
With this enhanced infrastructure, SGS now offers a comprehensive suite of accredited analytical services, such as fire assay for precious metals, elemental analysis by AAS, ICP-OES, and ICP-MS, cyanide-based gold determinations (BLEG and Leachwell), carbon and sulphur analysis, titration methods, and multi-elemental XRF analysis. All services are aligned with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
To further streamline logistics and reduce client costs, SGS has also established a feeder sample preparation unit in Izmir, a key region for gold exploration. This expansion improves accessibility and reinforces SGS’s presence in one of Türkiye’s most important mining hubs.
Türkiye’s mining industry is a vital contributor to the national economy, supplying essential commodities such as coal, boron, copper, marble, gold, iron, zinc, lead, and chromite.
“We are really proud of what we have built here,” said Nadin Hacerestunc, Managing Director, SGS Türkiye. “This move not only gives us the space and state-of-the-art equipment we need to grow, it also means faster turnaround times, better communication and stronger relationships across the mining sector.”
This relocation “represents SGS’s continued commitment to enhancing service capabilities, strengthening logistics, and supporting the long-term success of the mining industry in Türkiye and the wider region.”
