The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) was tracking key solar and storage races in the 2024 US election, and went out of its way to congratulate winners who the organization saw as solar champions. As the solar advocacy organization noted, “there are many Senate, House, and gubernatorial elections that could shape the future of clean energy policy nationwide.”

Unfortunately, the traditionally much more pro-solar party in Congress and the White House lost the Senate, lost the White House, and stayed in the minority in the House of Representatives. However, notably, SEIA did pick out one winning senator from the Republican Party and two Republican members of the House who won their races. At a time when Democrats are in the minority, they’re going to need any sympathetic solar supports on the other side of the aisle they can get to protect certain solar policies. For sure, strong new pro-solar policies will not be put on the agenda and voted on, but there is some hope Republicans won’t take out the axes and hack away at existing policies.

There was also one winning Republican governor who won SEIA’s nod, Indiana Governor-elect Mike Braun. We’ll have to see if we get any significant steps forward under former Senator and incoming Governor Braun.

Here’s SEIA’s full list of congratulations for winners in the House, Senate, and governorships:
