Sandvik strengthens ties with Barrick

Sandvik Mining and Barrick Gold have extended their global framework agreement to enhance their long-term partnership.

Under the partnership, Sandvik supplies technologies to Barrick’s international mining operations. The extended agreement will allow Sandvik to implement its latest technological advancements to improve safety, productivity and sustainability at the sites.

“This mutually beneficial cooperation will help ensure we continue our growth journeys in the areas of automation, digitalisation and electrification in order to drive improvements across our sites,” Barrick mining executive Glenn Heard said.

Sandvik will roll out its Remote Monitoring Service (RMS) to Barrick’s entire underground fleet of over 200 connected Sandvik trucks, loaders and drills. Sandvik RMS uses intelligent technology to predict and prevent breakdowns before they happen.

“RMS has already reduced maintenance costs while increasing uptime across Barrick’s Sandvik fleet,” Sandvik said.

Sandvik and Barrick will also develop a long-term battery electric vehicle strategy and transition plan to align with Barrick’s objective of carbon neutrality by 2050.

“This extension of our agreement will strengthen Sandvik’s partnership with Barrick,” Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions global account manager Hugo Hammar said. “We look forward to continuing to work hand-in-hand to add value to Barrick’s business.”
