Sandvik anchors rock bolt efficiency

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions has unveiled a new pumpable resin system for its i-series bolters, designed to improve safety and enable faster cycle time in the bolting rock support process.

The new pumpable resin system is compatible and optimised for Sandvik ground support products such as the DSI hollow bar system, which combines drilling, flushing, grouting, and anchoring in one solution, and the mineral bolt pumpable resin, which was designed to firmly fix mechanical bolts or anchors in the borehole.

Its features include a large onboard resin capacity to reduce refilling times and the mineral bolt pumpable resin offering fast and adjustable curing times, allowing faster re-entry to recently supported ground.

The resin pumping and grouting process is fully controlled and monitored through the system’s operator display, with the resin flow supervised via two resin flow metres.

The completely sealed resin system ensures no manual handling of chemicals, and its mixing ratio, filling ratio and filling volume are automatically controlled, only using the amount of resin required for the hole.

The system supports self-drilling bolts, hollow bar bolts and one-bolt automation sequences, providing swift and reliable support in challenging underground conditions.

Sandvik’s new pumpable resin system is available for the DS412i and DS412iE underground drill rigs, as well as a custom order for Sandvik DS512i machines.

“During field testing at a customer site in Spain, we achieved a 95 per cent success rate in pull-out tests, despite the challenging rock conditions,” Sandvik Mining product line manager, rock support drills Ari Kopperoinen said.

“The successful ground support installation can be attributed to the combination of our Sandvik DS412iE battery-electric bolter with self-drilling bolts from the DSI hollow bar system and mineral bolt pumpable resin.”
