The Queensland Government and AusIMM have formed a partnership to elevate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) awareness, knowledge and capability within the state’s critical minerals sector.
A $1 million investment from the Queensland Government will establish a formal ESG advisory panel that comprises representatives from government, industry, academia, and the community.
The partnership will also review domestic and international current state and trends in ESG, baseline Queensland’s critical minerals industry ESG capability, develop capability uplift strategies, tools and guidance materials, and establish an ESG industry excellence award.
The investment will be made under the Queensland Critical Minerals Strategy and aims to demonstrate the state’s commitment to advancing ESG and attracting sustainable investment for critical minerals needed for the global energy transition.
“As the resources industry navigates an increasingly ESG-conscious landscape, it’s essential that we not only prepare for but also seize the opportunities presented by investors, customers, and global jurisdictions,” Queensland Resources and Critical Minerals Minister Scott Stewart said.
“Through collaborative research and tailored solutions, we aim to equip Queensland’s critical minerals sector with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s evolving landscape.”
AusIMM chief executive officer Stephen Durkin said AusIMM is proud to partner with the Queensland Government.
“Our shared ambition is to ensure Queensland’s critical minerals sector is not just globally competitive, but a global leader in ESG excellence,” Durkin said.
“This is about creating a legacy of responsible resource development that delivers economic prosperity, environmental stewardship, and enduring benefits for Queensland communities.
“As the peak body for resources professionals, AusIMM understands the fundamental importance of environmental, social and governance performance in our sector … This partnership is a testament to our dedication to fostering a sector that thrives on innovation, expertise, and ethical practice.”
