Architecture and Engineering Occupations, with a share of 11%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the mining industry in Q3 2023, with new job postings drop by 23% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 9% in Q3 2023, with new job postings dropping by 16% over the previous quarter.
The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Production Occupations with a 7% share in Q3 2023, Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.
Top five companies in mining industry accounted for 28% of hiring activity
The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2023 were Rio Tinto, Enviri, ABB, Caterpillar, and Teck Resources. Together they accounted for a combined share of 28% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the mining industry.
Rio Tinto posted 976 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q3 2023, Enviri 630 jobs, ABB 629 jobs, Caterpillar 475 jobs, and Teck Resources 456 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.
Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 43.55% share of total new job postings, Q3 2023
The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the mining industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 43.55% followed by Canada (15.20%) and Australia (13.36%). The share represented by the US was two percentage points higher than the 42.02% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
