PLS appoints interim CFO

Pilbara Minerals (PLS) has appointed Flavio Garofalo as its interim chief financial officer (CFO) following the resignation of Luke Bortoli.

Garofalo joined PLS in January 2024 as group financial controller and holds more than 25 years of finance leadership experience in the mining industry.

He has previously held CFO and company secretary roles at several ASX-listed mining companies.

Garafolo holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from Curtin University and is also a certified practising accountant.

PLS managing director and chief executive officer Dale Henderson thanked Bortoli for his contribution during a transformative period for the company.

“On behalf of the board and the broader team at PLS, I would like to thank Luke for his valuable contribution during his time with the company,” Henderson said on June 3.

“Luke has played a key role in strengthening our financial and operational platform during a period of significant growth and transformation.

“Notable achievements include securing the company’s $1 billion revolving credit facility and supporting the successful acquisition of Latin Resources, among other major milestones. We wish Luke all the very best in his future endeavours.”

Bortoli will remain with the company during a transition period to ensure a smooth handover.

Prior to joining PLS, Bortoli held senior executive roles at high-growth companies across the technology, gaming and blockchain sectors.

He notably served as CFO of Afterpay during its evolution from an Australian start-up to a leading global payments platform. He also held leadership positions at Aristocrat Leisure and Chainlink.

The company has commenced a formal search process in partnership with executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles to identify a permanent CFO, with both internal and external candidates to be considered.

PLS said further updates on the appointment will be provided in due course.
