It was just several weeks ago that the planned installation of 750 to 800 public EV chargers was announced in San Diego. Not long afterwards, an announcement about 850 or more planned public EV chargers was made for Central and Northern California. The joint EV charging venture IONNA also made another announcement this month that it would install hundreds more public EV chargers, at least. Furthermore, news came out that 90 public EV chargers are planned to be installed in Los Angeles this same month. In Long Beach, 20 public and fleet EV chargers were installed. Tesla also officially launched its largest Supercharger hub, one with over 160 charging stalls. All together, that’s over 2,000 public EV chargers planned or installed in California just these past 4 weeks or so.
Going back to IONNA for a moment, one of the announcements mentioned a huge dollar amount — a quarter of a billion dollars. “Concluding a week-long kickoff tour of Rechargery stations across major metropolitan cities in California, IONNA is announcing a planned investment of more than $250 million in infrastructure across the Golden State over the next three years.
“This week alone, IONNA marked a significant milestone with kickoff ceremonies in San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, San Jose, and Westminster — representing only a fraction of the over 1,000 bays now contracted across California.”
It should be noted this EV charger installation progress is happening during the second Trump administration, one that is against clean energy and EVs. Thankfully, the politicians who are puppets of the fossil fuel industry can not stop California’s clean electricity and EV growth.
The state of California has over 201,000 public EV charger ports, and will be getting more soon. In California, there have been over 2 million zero-emissions vehicles sales. One reason is the availability of public EV chargers; another is there are EV incentives. Yet another is the public is more aware of climate change and toxic air pollution than residents of some other states. The Californian government also creates policies that support clean energy and sustainable transportation.
Installing such large numbers of EV chargers means jobs, and not low-paying, dead-end ones such as working in fast food or corralling shopping carts at big box retail outlets.
In a fairly short amount of time, it may turn out that the president becomes a truly lame duck and Democrats take back the House of Representatives. “However, by dint of not being in power, Democrats stand to benefit from growing dissatisfaction with Trump’s policies, rather than be hampered by their own struggles. Put another way, almost every indicator suggests that growing frustration with the Trump administration will hand Democrats control of the House.”
If that happens, the president may be stymied in his continued efforts to promote harmful fossil fuels and internal combustion engine vehicles.
