London, 31 May 2024, (Oilandgaspress): -Atlantic Basin diesel/gasoil imports fell by 190kbd in May after making a strong recovery in April, shaking off the slowdown of over the previous two quarters. Even though these flows have come off from the highs seen in April, they still remain well above the historical range. The key drivers are the flows from Russia, which hold up despite drone attacks on their refineries, and East of Suez suppliers which continue to send diesel into the Atlantic Basin. As a result, markets in the Atlantic Basin have been saturated with supply and have imported less diesel during May, especially Europe which is mainly driving this slowdown in May. This oversupply and stiff competition from other suppliers mentioned above have also led to US Gulf Coast margins to come under pressure. .according to reports.
Saab technology in new digital air traffic test centre in Belgium
The Belgian air traffic service provider Skeyes recently unveiled its Digital Tower Test Centre in Steenokkerzeel, Belgium, based on Saab’s digital air traffic management technology. The test centre is a prototype for the digital control center currently under development by Skeyes and Société Wallonne des Aéroports in Namur, Belgium, set to be operational in 2026. It is based on Saab’s Remote Tower (r-TWR) solution and will be used to remotely manage the air traffic at Charleroi and Liège airports, which are located 100 km apart. The test centre will be used to train air traffic controllers and familiarise staff with the new technology.
“We are proud to collaborate with Skeyes in shaping the future of air traffic control. The Digital Tower Test Centre is a significant milestone in the field, and we are excited to contribute our expertise to this transformative project in Belgium,” says Per Ahl, CEO at Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions.
Saab has delivered and integrated advanced technologies which will enhance reliability and safety, including camera technologies, simulators and visual presentation for the air traffic controllers in the centre. One of the pioneering achievements facilitated by Saab is the integration of an airport surveillance and Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) functionality into the digital tower concept. This system enables air traffic controllers to accurately track aircraft movements, even in adverse weather conditions, ensuring seamless operations at all times. In addition to its collaboration with Skeyes in Namur, Saab is also involved in the development of digital control centers in Flanders, Belgium. Read More

The consortium formed by Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. (Mitsubishi Power) and CONSAG Engenharia – an Andrade Gutierrez company (CONSAG) recently signed an agreement with Portocem Geração de Energia S.A. and New Fortress Energy, Inc. (NFE) for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the Portocem Thermoelectric Power Plant (UTE Portocem) in Brazil. The signing ceremony was held on May 10, 2024, in Tokyo at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (parent company of Mitsubishi Power) headquarters and included representatives from all parties of the consortium. The event celebrated this milestone achievement in Brazil’s largest simple cycle gas thermal power plant through a traditional Japanese Daruma doll ceremony. The Daruma doll is a custom used when setting a wish or a goal, and this symbolizes the communal goal for Portocem to be a successful project.
In the EPC agreement Mitsubishi Power will supply four M501JAC enhanced air-cooled gas turbines to operate in simple cycle at UTE Portocem. CONSAG will be responsible for providing the balance of plant , utilities, civil works, assembly, and commissioning of the plant as well as the implementation of the transmission line and substation. This collaboration will result in providing 1.6 GW of firm, dispatchable power capacity in what will be Brazil’s largest peaking power plant and one of the largest power plants ever built in Latin America, to provide reliable energy to the national grid in Brazil, supplying much-needed additional capacity to back the existing reliance on hydropower.
The project and its 15-year Capacity Reserve Contract received full regulator approval in March 2024. Portocem Geração de Energia S.A was the biggest winner of the first Power Capacity Reserve Auction in December 2021, and the project marks Mitsubishi Power’s third advanced technology heavy duty gas turbine project in Brazil in 5 years for a total of approximately 2.6 GW of gas turbine capacity.
Commercial operation is expected in 2026, with construction of the thermal power plant already in progress. NFE recently completed construction and commissioning of the Barcarena LNG terminal which will supply LNG to more than 2.2 GWs of capacity (owned by NFE) in Para, Brazil. Read More
With its new ë-C3, Citroën is kicking off a new French revolution. To date, electric vehicles have largely been seen as luxuries, reserved for the elite. With a price of €23,300 without even including the multiple EV bonuses available all over Europe – or just €99 per month ‑ the ë-C3 is now making them available to everyone with strong attributes such as new design with SUV codes, fully equipped, signature Citroen comfort, made in Europe, and up to 320km range.
To communicate that fact, Citroën is launching an equally disruptive advertising campaign. For the very first time, a fully integrated production set-up was used to create multiple assets simultaneously, thus ensuring maximum impact across all media channels and throughout the conversion funnel.
The results are breathtaking. The location shoot – at a Hungarian chateau – mobilized five production crews, over five days and nights. For the TV ad, the awards winner director Fredrik Bond spared no expense to craft a cinematic take on the ë-C3 revolution. The costumes and wigs came from Sofia Coppola’s film Marie Antoinette. The stunt crew worked on Dune 2. The soundtrack is the original version of David Bowie’s Suffragette City. With tongue firmly in cheek, the finished film tells the story of how electric vehicles finally ended up in the hands of the masses. Read More

Aramco has signed an agreement with Pasqal, a global leader in neutral atom quantum computing, to install the first quantum computer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The agreement will see Pasqal install, maintain, and operate a 200-qubit quantum computer, which is scheduled for deployment in the second half of 2025.The quantum computer will initially use an approach called “analog mode.” Within the following year, the system will be upgraded to a more advanced hybrid “analog-digital mode,” which is more powerful and able to solve even more complex problems.
Pasqal and Aramco intend to leverage the quantum computer to identify new use cases, and have an ambitious vision to establish a powerhouse for quantum research within Saudi Arabia. This would involve leading academic institutions with the aim of fostering breakthroughs in quantum algorithm development — a crucial step for unlocking the true potential of quantum computing.
The agreement also accelerates Pasqal’s activity in Saudi Arabia, having established an office in the Kingdom in 2023, and follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the companies in 2022 to collaborate on quantum computing capabilities and applications in the energy sector. In 2023, Aramco’s Wa’ed Ventures also participated in Pasqal’s Series B fundraising round. Read full article
Brookfield Corporation announced it has received approval from the Toronto Stock Exchange (“TSX”) for the renewal of its normal course issuer bid to purchase up to 142,988,844 Class A Limited Voting Shares (“Class A Shares”), representing 10% of the public float of Brookfield’s outstanding Class A Shares. Purchases under the bid will be made on the open market through the facilities of the TSX, the New York Stock Exchange (“NYSE”), and/or alternative trading systems. The period of the normal course issuer bid will extend from May 27, 2024 to May 26, 2025, or an earlier date should Brookfield complete its purchases. Brookfield will pay the market price at the time of acquisition for any Class A Shares purchased or such other price as may be permitted.
As at May 17, 2024, the number of Class A Shares issued and outstanding totaled 1,642,975,156 of which 1,429,888,442 shares represented the public float. In accordance with the rules of the TSX, the maximum daily purchase on the TSX under this bid will be 399,711 Class A Shares, which is 25% of 1,598,845 (the average daily trading volume for Class A Shares on the TSX for the six months ended April 30, 2024).
Of the 142,042,619 Class A Shares approved for purchase under Brookfield’s prior normal course issuer bid that commenced on May 25, 2023 and will expire on May 24, 2024, Brookfield purchased 27,869,934 Class A Shares as of May 17, 2024; 8,551,236 Class A Shares through open market purchases on the TSX and 19,318,698 Class A Shares through open market purchases on the NYSE. The weighted average price that Brookfield paid per Class A Share acquired under this bid was US$37.24.
Brookfield is renewing its normal course issuer bid because it believes that, from time to time, the market price of its Class A Shares may not fully reflect the underlying value of its business and its future business prospects. Brookfield believes that, in such circumstances, the outstanding Class A Shares represent an attractive investment for Brookfield, since a portion of its excess cash generated on an annual basis can be invested for an attractive risk adjusted return through the issuer bid. All Class A Shares acquired by Brookfield under this bid will be cancelled and/or purchased by a non-independent trustee pursuant to the terms of Brookfield’s long-term incentive plans. Brookfield intends to enter into an automatic share purchase plan on or about the week of June 17, 2024 in relation to the normal course issuer bid. The automatic share purchase plan will allow for the purchase of Class A Shares, subject to certain trading parameters, at times when Brookfield ordinarily would not be active in the market due to its own internal trading black-out period, insider trading rules or otherwise. Outside of these periods, Class A Shares will be repurchased in accordance with management’s discretion and in compliance with applicable law. Read full article

Bentley Motors has expanded its bespoke exterior satin paint finish range to 15 unique colour options, responding to customers’ desire for even more opportunities to personalise their Bentley cars. The expanded palette offers a diverse choice, from classic and understated tones to bolder and contemporary colours to ensure that there is a perfect option to complement every Bentley model to its owners liking.
Every Bentley that features a satin finish takes up to 55 hours to be painted, with the finish hand-applied by Bentley’s craftsmen and women in the Excellence Centre for Bespoke Paint. The car first arrives in its gloss colour, before being hand-sanded, cleaned, masked, then dusted and cleaned again before a clear lacquer is hand-applied in two stages in order to achieve a perfect and uniform satin finish. As with all Bentley vehicles, each car is inspected and signed off by an independent Production Quality Team that ensures every surface of every panel will exceed the customer’s expectations. In the future, all satin paints will be applied to Bentley’s cars in its new, state-of-the-art Paint Shop, which is due to be completed in 2025. After drawing inspiration from design technologies and trends to identify new colours to suit our customers preferences, each satin paint finish is developed by a team of experts at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, England, undergoing a meticulous set of testing processes that ensure the paint finish reflects Bentley’s commitment to the finest craftsmanship, quality and durability across every aspect of its cars.
Satin paint finishes are unique in the way they interact with light particles – scattering them across the surface of the car rather than reflecting them like gloss finishes do, meaning the satin paints accentuate the styling lines of Bentley’s cars in a way that gloss finishes don’t always.
