Of Course the New Volkswagen ID Model in China Is Its Best Looking! – CleanTechnica

A pre-production version of the Volkswagen ID.Evo has been unveiled in China. This is the first model coming from Volkswagen that’s a result of its collaboration with Xpeng. As it turns out, this is also — by far — the best looking Volkswagen ID model out there, and I don’t even think that’s something you can argue.

What a stunner! This would probably shoot to the very top of my list of best looking SUVs. Alas, it will never be available in the US, and probably not even outside of China.

The ID.Evo will be arriving in 2026. We don’t yet have specs or pricing or any other real details about the model.

The pre-production ID.Evo shown above was produced in the Volkswagen Anhui factory, which is a joint factory shared with JAC, but the crossover was co-developed by Volkswagen Anhui and Xpeng, who have formed a close collaboration in order to help both businesses’ bottom line in a cutthroat market.

“The Volkswagen ID.Evo aims at young Chinese customers with modern styling, an 800V high-voltage system, an AI voice assistant, a BEV range of over 700 km (CLTC), and the L2++ driver’s assistance system,” CarNewsChina writes.

Volkswagen really needs this model to succeed. Its previous partnership with JAC turned out to be a … disaster. Their first model, the Sol E20X, was a big flop — reaching only ~4,100 sales. Their second model, the ID.Unyx, was also a flop — reaching only ~4,400 sales as of March 2025. As a result, Volkswagen Anhui lost 1.35 billion yuan (~187 million) in 2024. The company is sure to score more big losses in 2025 thanks to its second flop. Can the ID.Evo turn things around? It’s no given, that’s for sure, but with those looks and Xpeng tech inside, it seems like we could see Volkswagen finally getting its groove back in China. We’ll see….
