In the US, electric vehicle news tends to be about Tesla, Chevy, Ford, Rivian, etc., and recently because BYD has made and sold so many EVs, there has been more attention on the Chinese competition. Zach has been diligently writing about Xiaomi, Zeeker, Xpeng, and some others which counters the misinformation and disinformation about lagging EV sales. Anyone who digs deeper than just the surface will find EV sales are doing just fine, despite all the social media misinformation and false, negative comments on many EV articles from trolls. The pandemic’s economic disruption, supply chain issues, and record inflation also have played a role in decreasing sales of many vehicles of all types and yet, again, some EVs are still selling reasonably well.

One that you don’t hear about much in the US because it is in the European EV market is Škoda. In fact, more than 250,000 Škoda Enyaq EVs have been sold in Europe since the Enyaq was launched in 2020.

“The all-electric Enyaq remains one of the best-selling BEVs overall in key markets like Germany, where it also ranked first among electric cars in September. This result makes the Enyaq the second best-selling electric car in Germany in the first nine months of 2024,” says a press release on the VW website.

If you are unfamiliar with the Enyaq, it is an all-electric compact crossover SUV based on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform. When it was first launched in 2020, what stood out was that it had above average range, approximately 240 to 300 miles, and it cost less than €50,000.

Now, Škoda has announced a new Enyaq, and the version with the most range can drive about 350 miles on one charge. There are three new versions: The Enyaq 60, 85, and 85x. Two battery sizes are available, a 63 kWh and an 82 kWh version. The 10% to 80% charging time is less than 30 minutes. The 85x is all-wheel drive and the others are rear-wheel. Prices for the new Enyaqs start at about €44,000.

“Since their launch in 2020, the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé have made e-mobility a reality for over 250,000 customers, along with their families and friends. Now the new Enyaq series brings fresh options and improvements to the table, including even more stylish design and even greater electric range. I’m grateful to our customers for making the Enyaq one of Europe’s most popular fully electric vehicles. We want to excite the market further by building on our existing Enyaq strengths such as the generous amount of space, efficient drivetrains and excellent value proposition. Our new Modern Solid design language, more comprehensive standard equipment, and new digital features combine to make the Enyaq models even better everyday companions,” said Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Škoda Auto.

The reviewer in this video tour shows the Škoda Enyaq has both ample legroom and cargo space for a small vehicle.

The Enyaq also has a new design and improved drag coefficient. The design is appealing and pleasant without being too unconventional in appearance like the Cybertruck or the Toyota Bz4x. Personally, it looks like a great car, and the Škoda Enyaq is the EV that I would most like to drive if I was visiting Europe and could find one as a rental for a couple of days or a week.
