In a time when there is a US president who opposes clean energy and sustainable transportation, combined with the loss of federal EV incentives, it has been encouraging to see many new public EV charger installations going forward.

These “small” EV charger installation projects matter in their local areas, and they demonstrate how, little-by-little, charging infrastructure is gradually expanding nationally.

Josh Green, CEO of Inspiration Mobility Group, answered some questions about the new chargers.

What charging connectors are supported at the new chargers?

Both the Kansas City and Pittsburgh 180-kilowatt chargers are compatible with CCS connectors and NACS (with an adapter).

Kansas City

How many fast charging ports will be installed in KC and where in KC?

12 chargers have been installed in downtown Kansas City in the Paseo West district.

Are they the only fast chargers in that area?

Yes. They are the only publicly available DCFC chargers located within 3 miles of downtown KC.

What is their peak charging speed?

Inspiration has installed Zerova 180 kW DC Fast Chargers. The DCFC equipment can charge a BEV to 80 percent in 20 minutes to 1 hour.

How will EV drivers pay for their charges and what will be the cost?

To open these PowerUp Points to the public, Inspiration teamed with Presto, an all-in-one EV charging platform purpose-built for scalability. Drivers can easily find, charge, and pay through the Presto network, ensuring a seamless and reliable experience.

Are the chargers covered by a canopy or some other structure?

No.

Are they located near amenities and major roads for easy access?

The Kansas City charging station is located right off Dwight D. Eisenhower Hwy.
