Perseus Mining has appointed a new chief operating officer to its leadership team, taking effect from August 19.

Amanda Weir is an executive who has over 20 years’ experience in the mining industry, with Weir having spent the past 10-plus years in executive level positions.

From January 2022 to December 2023, she worked as chief transformation officer at Newcrest; and from April 2023 to December 2023, she was the company’s senior vice president of Canadian operations.

Once Newcrest was officially acquired by Newmont in November 2023, Weir helped drive the integration of Newcrest’s operations into Newmont prior to assuming the role of Newmont’s interim group head mineral resource management.

Prior to her tenure at Newcrest and Newmont, Weir worked at Evolution Mining as general manager transformation and effectiveness from May 2020 to May 2021, and worked in various strategy, innovation and technical roles at BHP from June 2010 to August 2019.

“We are delighted to welcome Amanda to the Perseus team, as chief operating officer,” Perseus chairman and chief executive officer Jeff Quartermaine said.

“Perseus is going through a significant phase of growth but maintaining our focus on the performance of our operations will be key to the ongoing success of our company. Amanda brings a wealth of operational and technical expertise and deep knowledge of leading teams through strategic transformation in complex environments.

“We look forward to Amanda applying her significant skills and experience to help guide our operations through the next phase of growth.”

Earlier this week, Perseus acquired a 13.82 per cent stake in Predictive Discovery, an emerging Australian mineral development company with a global portfolio.
