Engineering company Monadelphous Group has been awarded a contract worth approximately A$160m ($101.98m) from Talison Lithium for the construction of the Chemical Grade Plant 3 (CGP3) at the Greenbushes lithium project in Western Australia.
Under the contract, Monadelphous will be responsible for installing a new crushing and screening facility and lithium concentrate processing plant.
The scope of the contract also includes associated tank and piping fabrication works and electrical supply.
Monadelphous managing director Zoran Bebic said the contract follows a successful period of early contractor involvement.
Bebic added: “We are delighted to have secured this key opportunity, which further extends our participation in the development of Talison Lithium’s Greenbushes operations.”
Monadelphous plans to start work at the mine site later this year with completion scheduled in the first half of 2025.
Located approximately 250km south of Perth and Fremantle, the Greenbushes lithium project is undergoing expansion to increase its production capacity.
The lithium feedstock from the Greenbushes mine is supplied to Tianqi Lithium Energy Australia’s lithium hydroxide facility in Kwinana.
Earlier this year, Macmahon secured an A$1.1bn contract from Talison Lithium Australia to undertake open-cut mining activities of load and haul and crusher feed at the Greenbushes mine.
Talison Lithium Australia is a joint venture arrangement owned by Tianqi Lithium Energy Australia and the Albemarle Corporation.
