Monadelphous been awarded two new construction and maintenance contracts with Rio Tinto in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The first is a multidisciplinary construction contract that Monadelphous secured under its sustaining capital projects panel agreement for a replacement ammonium nitrate storage facility at Rio’s Brockman 4 iron ore mine.
Works under the contract are expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.
The second is a three-year panel contract where Monadelphous will provide water management works across Rio’s mine operations in the Pilbara.
The two new contracts demonstrate the strong relationship Monadelphous has built with Rio. In total, the two contracts will generate approximately $150 million in revenue.
Last year, the engineering company locked in two one-year contract extensions with Rio, which concerned fixed plant maintenance services and sustaining capital projects across the major’s iron ore operations in the Pilbara.
At the Tom Price iron ore mine, Monadelphous secured a fabrication, supply, installation and commissioning contract, with the works expected to be completed by mid-2025.
Mondium, Monadelphous’ joint venture with Lycopodium, also secured a significant design and construct contract from Rio last year. This will involve the development of a new sampling facility at a port operation in the Pilbara. The construction work is set to be completed by mid-2026.
Rio owns an integrated network of 17 iron ore mines, four independent port terminals, a rail network spanning nearly 2000km kilometres and related infrastructure in the Pilbara.
The last 12 months has seen Monadelphous lock in contracts with other major Australian miners, including BHP, Fortescue, Lynas Rare Earths and Iluka Resources.
