Mining’s best on show at MINExpo

MINExpo 2024 has officially begun, bringing together some of the biggest names in the mining industry to showcase cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions for the sector.

The event, held in Las Vegas, has drawn global attention as a premier platform for the latest advancements in mining equipment and services.

Rich Nolan, president and chief executive officer of the National Mining Association, addressed the significance of the event, highlighting how MINExpo serves as a vital hub for companies to network, share ideas, and demonstrate how they are driving the mining industry forward.

Nolan said that with more than 2000 exhibitors and spanning over 850,000 square feet, the event is showcasing the best the industry has to offer.

“We are in the midst of an incredibly dynamic period for the mining industry,” he said. “That’s because there is no time in mining’s history that has been more significant than this moment right now.

“Right now, the products of mining are helping shape and, in many ways, solve every major discussion, opportunity and challenge that is dominating the news.”

Epiroc

One of the key exhibitors at this year’s MINExpo is Epiroc, a global leader in mining equipment and technology.

Epiroc’s display will focus on automation, electrification, and digitalisation – three core areas that are reshaping the mining landscape.

The company will be unveiling a new large-capacity mine truck with an all-electric driveline.

The largest battery-electric loader from Epiroc, Scooptram ST18 SG, will be on display, further emphasising the company’s major advances in load and haul.

Epiroc will showcase two milestones in electric surface drilling rigs – the Pit Viper 271 E and SmartROC D65 BE.

Both rigs unlock emissions-free operations, low noise pollution, substantial cost savings and smart automation features that improve productivity and safety.

Komatsu

Komatsu, a familiar name in mining machinery, is set to make a strong showing with the launch of several innovations in both surface and underground mining equipment.

Komatsu has long been recognised for its commitment to sustainability and efficiency, and at MINExpo 2024, the company will be showcasing its latest hybrid and electric-powered equipment.

One of the most anticipated features of Komatsu’s booth is the introduction of the company’s two GHH machines, making their debut at MINExpo 2024. This includes the WX15 Load-Haul-Dump (LHD) machine (formerly GHH LF-14) and the HX45 mining truck (formerly GHH MK-45).

Both machines are designed to promote operator safety and productivity and offer innovative solutions for underground mining customers.

Cummins

Another major player at MINExpo, Cummins will be highlighting the role of bridge technologies, such as hybrid solutions, in reducing mining emissions and total cost of ownership (TCO) for miners.

Cummins will also be showcasing its latest generation QSK60 and QSK95 engines at the event.

With the push toward decarbonisation in mining, Cummins’ focus on alternative fuels, including hydrogen and hybrid engine technologies, is expected to draw significant interest from industry professionals looking to meet stricter emissions regulations.

Cummins said it will also be highlighting the company’s commitment to delivering sustainable power systems that do not compromise on performance or durability, a critical consideration for the heavy-duty equipment used in mining.

With major industry leaders like Epiroc, Komatsu, Cummins and a long list of others bringing groundbreaking innovations to MINExpo 2024, the event promises to be a showcase of the future of mining technology.

Attendees will have the chance to explore these innovations firsthand and gain insights into how the industry is evolving to meet the challenges of a changing global landscape.
