Mining truck body major Schlam acquired by Italy’s USCO ITR – International Mining

Schlam Payload, the rapidly growing Australian mining load and haul equipment company, says it is preparing for further international expansion following its acquisition by USCO ITR, a multinational market leader in aftermarket and OEM machinery parts.

Founded in Perth in 2016 by local entrepreneur Ryan Schlam, Schlam Payload has evolved from a regional player into a global innovator, supplying customised products to more than 100 open-pit mines across five continents.

Schlam Payload Executive Chair and Group CEO David Haslett said that as part of the USCO ITR Group, the company will be better equipped to invest in new capabilities and further develop its market footprint. “USCO ITR brings a global presence, manufacturing expertise and steel product technology,” Haslett said. “When combined with our products and whole-life-cycle services, this will provide significantly greater value for our customers.”

USCO ITR is a private company headquartered in Italy and a global manufacturer and supplier of parts for mobile construction, earth-moving and mining equipment. Schlam Payload will continue to operate autonomously within the Group, retaining its specialist focus on mining products.

“It’s an opportunity for our business to keep running our course while gaining the support of a global manufacturer,” Haslett added.

Schlam manufactures lightweight Hercules Mining Truck Beds for haulage trucks ranging from 100 t to over 300 t capacity and Barracuda Loading Attachments for 100 t to 600 t excavators, loaders and backhoes.

The transaction was initiated through an international share sale process managed by corporate advisors, Gresham Partners. The sale price is stated as confidential.

USCO ITR is headquartered in Modena, Italy, where it has a built-up area of some 29,000 m2 in a total 73,000 m2 surface area. It says the complex is not merely the strategic base for the group’s business activities but also the main storage facility for spare parts for earth-moving machines in Europe.

Its history dates to 1989 when it was set up as as a trading company specialised in repair parts for Caterpillar earthmoving machines. ITR was acquired in 1992. The existing ITR GET line is focused on the construction sector and is compatible with the wear parts of numerous models from major manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo and CNH.
