Mining industry reacts to Trump win in US election

Former US President Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 Presidential Election in a speech to his supporters in Florida, claiming that the electorate had given his team “an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”

Trump has now won four of the seven swing states – North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – taking him to 277 electoral college votes.

Candidates need 270 votes to take the presidency.

Although counting is still underway in Michigan, Arizona and Nevada the results there cannot change the outcome of the race.

During the election campaign both Trump and Democrat candidate Kamala Harris pledged their support for mining, acknowledging the strategic importance of critical minerals.

Commenting on the 2024 election result, National Mining Association president and CEO Rich Nolan told Mining Technology:
