Metso has announced the launch of the SCDH4500, its largest split geared ring model to date.
This advancement represents an important improvement in transforming thickener maintenance and reinforces Metso’s commitment to delivering solutions that improve reliability, enhance safety and support sustainable operations in mining, it says. As a result, customers benefit from shorter shutdowns, safer working environments and decreased service expenses overall.
The SCDH4500 is designed to address the practical challenges associated with traditional full slew bearing replacements. Its two-piece split design enables up to 50% faster installation and reduces the need for extensive system disassembly. This approach helps minimise downtime and improve safety by eliminating the use of large cranes and suspended loads, providing substantial savings in labour, equipment hire and lost production, the company says.
The launch of the SCDH4500 also supports Metso’s broader strategy to expand its thickener offering and strengthen its aftermarket capabilities. By providing scalable and efficient solutions, Metso continues to help customers optimise performance across the full lifecycle of their equipment. The new model integrates seamlessly with existing SCD drive geometries, offering compatibility and reliability in demanding applications.
Andrew McIntosh, Product Director, Thickening Services, Metso, said: “The innovative two-piece split design allows faster installation without requiring extensive system disassembly. This not only minimises operational disruptions but also enhances safety by eliminating the need for large cranes and suspended loads. Additionally, the SCDH4500 seamlessly integrates with existing SCD drive geometries, ensuring reliability in high-torque applications.”
Metso says it has an exceptional track record for innovation with a diverse portfolio of thickening and clarifying products, suiting a wide range of applications.
