METS sector bolstered by WA Government funding

Five mining equipment, technology and services (METS) companies in Western Australia have received funding from the METS innovation program, a dedicated funding scheme from the Minerals Research Institute of WA (MRIWA).

The $3 million METS innovation program supports METS-related research projects and the development of new technologies in areas such as low-emissions technologies, critical minerals, and the alternative use of tailings and mine waste.

The program has awarded a total of $1.25 million in funding to five METS projects, with each project receiving $250,000.

The five projects are:

The funding is expected to help accelerate the development of new WA companies, products and markets to benefit the overall WA economy.

“The Westen Australian METS sector underpins the global success and competitiveness of our minerals and mining industries,” WA Mines and Petroleum Minister David Michael said.

“Supporting research into cutting-edge technologies and techniques helps bring new products and services to market quicker. The (WA) Government through its Diversify WA industry development framework is supporting the growth of the METS sector to the benefit of WA.

“MRIWA funding is helping deliver this Government’s economic diversity priorities, while working to sustain our globally competitive mining sector through targeted research.”

Applications for the next funding round from the METS innovation program will close on March 4 2025.
