Martinus and Vitrinite partner to deliver integrated rail and haulage solutions in Queensland

Martinus has signed a strategic agreement with Queensland-based resource company Vitrinite to deliver a fully integrated rail infrastructure and haulage solution, marking a new milestone in the company’s evolution as a full-service rail partner.

The partnership, formalised through an exclusive memorandum of understanding (MoU), will see Martinus provide above- and below-rail capability, infrastructure delivery, and financing strategy across Vitrinite’s emerging coal operations in central Queensland.

While the agreement is early-stage, both parties are aligned on long-term intent.

“This is more than a project, it’s a partnership built around shared ambition and delivery philosophy,” Martinus chief executive officer and founder Treaven Martinus said.

“We bring a model that integrates infrastructure, haulage and capital solutions under one roof. That’s rare in this market and it sets the tone for a different kind of collaboration.”

The scope includes development of fit-for-purpose rail infrastructure through Infrastructure by Martinus, above-rail services via Martinus Haulage division, and exploration of financing options, including potential engagement with the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF).

Financing strategy sits within Infrastructure by Martinus, which also leads the group’s delivery of BOOT and FBOOT models.

According to Martinus national business development manager for haulage Lee Morrissey, the partnership gives both companies the opportunity to build something designed from the ground up.

“Martinus’ integrated model is about simplicity, speed and better outcomes,” Morrissey said.

“We reduce duplication and friction by uniting construction, operations and planning from the outset and that pays off when you’re building new supply chains.”

Martinus’ haulage division offers end-to-end above-rail services across construction trains, freight movement and long-haul operations, while its infrastructure arm delivers large-scale rail projects across Australia and the Americas, including major brownfield and corridor enhancement work.

Business development director Jonathon Shwabsky, who leads the Infrastructure by Martinus division, said the group’s structure allows greater alignment and flexibility in how rail infrastructure is delivered.

“Whether it’s BOOT, EPC or early contractor involvement, we have the in-house depth to take on complex project development,” Shwabsky said. “That gives clients options and it gives us the ability to unlock and deliver long-term value.”

Vitrinite and Martinus both cited alignment in values, culture and ambition as central to the partnership. The businesses will work closely using an open-book model, with shared planning, embedded teams and an iterative approach to solution development.

“This isn’t a standard contractor-client setup,” Morrissey said. “It’s about solving problems together and building for the long haul.”

The agreement marks a new chapter in Martinus’ growth strategy, as the business expands from major project delivery into ownership and operations across the rail lifecycle.

Martinus and Vitrinite expect to share further updates as the partnership progresses.
