An Apollo Go robotaxi may have just fallen into a construction pit while in service in China, but the robotaxi business is still continuously expanding, including in Europe.

Baidu (“China’s Google”) is the parent company of Apollo Go (“China’s Waymo”). It has done a pretty good job of expanding its robotaxi services in China and beyond in recent years. Like Waymo’s been doing, Apollo Go keeps rolling out its robotaxis in new markets. Also, like how Waymo has been partnering with Uber in new cities, Apollo Go is now partnering with Lyft (and also sometimes Apollo Go).

Apollo Go will reportedly launch robotaxi services in Europe in 2026 via the Lyft network. This kind of partnership is clearly seen as the best way — financially and time wise — to expand robotaxi services. Just got on the apps people are already using!

Initial European markets where Apollo Go will launch its 6th-generation robotaxis are Germany and the UK.

The companies want to jointly add several thousand robotaxis to European roads in the coming years.

“This collaboration with Lyft to launch autonomous ride-hailing in Europe, starting with Germany and the UK, is a major milestone in Apollo Go’s globalization strategy,” said Robin Li, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Baidu.
