The charitable program creates a healthier future for children and families in Chicago
CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–NRG today celebrated surpassing $6 million in contributions to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago from its charitable program, Choose to Give. The milestone was celebrated at an event held at the hospital with a dedication ceremony for the hospital’s emergency department waiting area.
NRG’s Choose to Give program launched at Lurie Children’s in 2017, and contributions from NRG customers help support the hospital’s Access for Every Child fund to ease families’ financial burdens so they can focus on what is truly important—their child’s health.
“We are immensely grateful to NRG for their extraordinary commitment to Lurie Children’s ‘Access for Every Child’ fund through this generous $6 million commitment,” said Dr. Thomas P. Shanley, MD, President and CEO, Lurie Children’s. “This support will significantly enhance our ability to fulfill our mission of providing world-class care to every child who needs our expert care.”
When NRG customers enroll through the Choose to Give electricity plan, NRG contributes $50 to Lurie Children’s. In addition, NRG contributes one percent of each customer’s electricity supply charges to Lurie Children’s annually for as long as the customer remains on the plan. Besides helping children’s health, those who enroll will also get the peace of mind that comes with locking in a predictable electricity supply price for 12 months.
“NRG is honored to support the ‘Access for Every Child’ fund to help bring comfort to families seeking care at Lurie Children’s Hospital,” said Mike Rombach, Vice President & General Manager, NRG Consumer. “The success of our Choose to Give plan reflects just how much our customers appreciate the incredible work done at Lurie Children’s, and we are proud to provide them with an easy, impactful way to contribute to this incredible cause.”
Since 2017, NRG’s Choose to Give program has empowered customers to support local nonprofits simply through paying their electricity bills. To date, NRG and its customers have contributed more than $20 million to local organizations across the country through the program.
