In 2024, Liebherr announced the generation upgrade of its flagship mining dozer – the PR 776 Generation 8 – at MINExpo in Las Vegas. One year on, Liebherr says its PR 776 G8 dozers have been achieving excellent results in the field worldwide.
The latest generation of the 70 t dozer implements improvements to the machine’s design to optimise maintenance and reliability, and offers access to the latest technology features while maintaining the machine’s class-leading fuel efficiency. Production takes place at the Liebherr facility in Telfs, Austria, which has recently undergone significant investments to strengthen capacity and future-readiness.
Since its market debut, the PR 776 G8 has been successfully deployed in mining and quarrying operations across five countries, supporting seven customers in achieving operational excellence.
In Ghana, the first PR 776 G8 in the country was commissioned in April for Rocksure International Limited at Asanko gold mine – marking the delivery of Liebherr’s first mining machine to this new customer.
“Rocksure is proud to be the first to introduce the Liebherr PR 776 Dozer to Ghana, putting it to work at our operations in Asanko mines,” said Kwasi Osei Ofori, Managing Director & CEO of Rocksure International Limited. “Its commanding power, smooth control, and fuel-efficient performance have exceeded expectations in demanding terrain. The PR 776 has proven to be a reliable and highly effective addition to our fleet, reinforcing our commitment to innovation in mining operations. It’s a machine that doesn’t just perform – it delivers, and our team has been genuinely impressed.”
Two months later in June, two additional PR 776 G8 dozers were commissioned for a long-standing customer at a gold mine in Ghana. These units join 14 existing Liebherr mining machines already in operation at the mine and have demonstrated strong performance since their commissioning.
In the Americas, PR 776 G8 units are working in dozer fleets with PR 776 G6 dozers in the United States and Canada. In Wyoming, USA, PR 776 dozers are operating at the Belle Ayr mine in the Powder River Basin. The dozers, which manage overburden dumps, create ramps, and assist in road maintenance, have performed well even under challenging ground and weather conditions, and are well received by operators on site. In Canada, a fleet of four PR 776 dozers, including a Generation 8 unit, went to work at the Gibraltar copper mine in British Columbia.
In Australia, a fleet of PR 776 dozers, including Generation 8 units, have been deployed at Northern Star Resources’ Super Pit gold mine. Additional units in Australia are also operating in an iron ore application.
In Europe, AMM Obra Civil Murcia has expanded its large fleet of Liebherr dozers from the 24-tonne PR 744 to the 70-tonne PR 776 for use in construction projects in Spain. AMM has a total of three PR 776 dozers, having acquired a Generation 8 unit in early 2025. The first PR 776 was used for material extraction for railway construction, while the second unit was deployed for the restoration of a decommissioned quarry.
Liebherr Mining is set to deploy the first LiReCon ‘Liebherr Remote Control’ teleoperations system in a mining application to SQM – the global lithium and iodine mining company with operations in northern Chile – next year. Two PR 776 G8 dozers will operate under the control of the LiReCon system.
The LiReCon solution consists of the Liebherr Remote Control teleoperation stand – a state-of-the-art operator workspace including all required controls – and onboard dozer installations such as cameras for all different angles and views, microphones for recording machine sounds, radio link receiver, and transmitter. LiReCon allows fast shift changes between operators and consequently reduces idle and downtime. As the operator is no longer tied to the machine, it also enables customers to reach new extraction areas in hazardous zones, thus extending the range of applications for Liebherr mining dozers. LiReCon is available within Liebherr Mining’s IoMine Automate technology product range.
The PR 776 G8 dozer integrates advanced Operator Assistance Systems (OAS), previously available only on smaller dozer models. There are two additional packages available for mining dozers: the Blade Control Assistance package which offers control over the blade to increase performance while reducing operator fatigue, and the Ripper Control Assistance package which automates repetitive ripper tasks to also reduce operator fatigue. For the PR 776, OAS can be installed as first fit or retrofitted onto machines already in operation. Liebherr Assistance Systems for all mining equipment models are available within the Liebherr Mining IoMine technology portfolio.
A new Load Control package that builds upon the existing packages will be launched in 2026 for the PR 776 G8 mining dozer. The new OAS package is designed to maximise traction, reduce track slip, and support consistent performance across varying ground conditions.
