Envirostream has signed an exclusive battery recycling agreement with ZECO Energy, a battery and solar solutions provider.
The agreement officially commenced on February 19 and is for an initial five-year term, with a three-year optional term.
It will see Livium, Envirostream’s parent company, provide exclusive recycling services for end-of-life residential and commercial energy storage system battery packs supplied through ZECO’s network.
As per the agreement, Livium will receive a fee for sorting and recycling the batteries, as well as supplementary services including battery dismantling, discharging, and transport.
The deal with ZECO joins Envirostream’s list of exclusive recycling agreements with companies such as Infinitev, Hyundai Glovis, LG Energy Solution, Volvo Group Australia, Industrea Mining Equipment and Hithium.
“By collaborating with ZECO Energy, we are reinforcing our commitment to a circular economy for energy storage,” Livium managing director and chief executive officer Simon Linge said.
“This partnership ensures that end-of-life batteries are repurposed responsibly, supporting both environmental and industry sustainability. Building out the network of sources of end-of-life batteries gives us the confidence to scale our recycling business, which will allow us to service more markets.”
ZECO director Jag Makam said partnering with Livium will take ZECO’s sustainability and responsible product cycle management to the next level, while the company aims to build lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) supply chains outside of China to reduce reliance on the country.
“By partnering with a top player in battery recycling, we are making sure our energy management solutions are handled responsibly from start to finish,” Makam said.
“This collaboration doesn’t just show our commitment, it raises the bar for energy solutions in Australia.”
Livium has also secured a $30 million grant for its LFP demonstration plant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
“We are thankful to ARENA for their support for the demonstration plant, which seeks to unlock a patented technology and advance western LFP supply chains which will ultimately seek to increase access to high-quality, cathode materials,” Linge said on February 20.
