London, September 03, 2025, (Oilandgaspress) ––Oil up by more than 1% in the recent trading sessions after the U.S. imposed new sanctions on a network of shipping companies and vessels led by an Iraqi-Kittitian businessman for smuggling Iranian oil disguised as Iraqi oil.
U.S. crude oil stockpiles were expected to have fallen last week, along with distillate and gasoline inventories, a preliminary Reuters poll showed on Tuesday. Three analysts polled by Reuters ahead of weekly inventory data estimated on average that crude inventories fell by about 3.4 million barrels in the week to August 29. Read More
China is reportedly to build a land-based ‘Suez Canal’ to connect Europe and Asia. Chongqing in China has become a major hub for an overland trade route that some say could become the new Suez Canal. The route is served by rail, and is expected to become Asia’s most important logistics hub. The South China Morning Post said the city has quickly emerged as a strategic fulcrum in China’s trade network, and its model—if it continues to succeed—could inspire the government to go for similar investments in the west of the country. The delivery time over land is 10-20 days shorter than traditional sea routes, and considerably simplifies customs issues. The launch of the ASEAN bullet train in 2023 cut the shipping time between Hanoi and Chongqing to just five days, from which goods will reach Europe in less than two weeks.
In addition to its strategic location, Chongqing is a major production powerhouse, responsible for manufacturing about a third of the world’s laptops, a major base for the production of electric cars, and a major export centre for a quarter of China’s cars. Read More
At the recent large-scale Victory Day parade in Beijing, China showcased its newest intercontinental nuclear missile, the Dongfeng 5C (DF-5C). The DF-5C has an estimated range of more than 12,427 miles (20,000 kilometers). This places the entire globe within its strike range, giving it the ability to deter threats and reinforce global stability.
“The DF-5C liquid-fueled intercontinental strategic nuclear missile integrated technologies and experiences throughout the development of China’s previous DF series missiles, including technological advantages of the DF-5 series and DF-41 missiles,” said Professor Yang Chengjun, an expert on missile technology and nuclear disarmament.

SGN announced the results of its live transmission system (LTS) futures trial in Scotland, which took place over the summer. The project focused on the UK’s high-pressure Local Transmission System (LTS) – an 11,600km pipeline network that brings gas from the national system to homes, businesses and industries in local communities. It aimed to answer a key question – can the same techniques that are used to maintain and operate natural gas networks today be used on live hydrogen pipelines in the future?
In a UK first, a representative 30km stretch of the LTS pipeline, which runs between Granton near Edinburgh and Grangemouth, was safely repurposed to carry hydrogen. LTS Futures will create a blueprint for repurposing the entire LTS to hydrogen. This could help create regional hydrogen hubs, support industrial clusters, and potentially provide a pathway for a wider transition to low-carbon hydrogen. As a critical part of the UK’s gas infrastructure, the successful conversion of the LTS to hydrogen would mean a low-disruption, resilient backbone for our net zero energy system. Read More
UK might have to import 70% of its oil and gas demand by the end of this decade if there is not “sustained investment” in the sector, industry leaders have warned. It comes after a report said production from the North Sea fell to a “historic low” in 2024, leaving the UK needing imports of oil and gas to meet more than 40% of its energy needs.. That is despite Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) insisting there are still “significant oil and gas reserves” in the North Sea, with the industry body saying these could be realised if there was “continued support for the sector”. As part of this, OEUK chief executive David Whitehouse argued that scrapping the current windfall tax on oil and gas, and replacing it with more “appropriate price mechanisms”, could help deliver more than two billion barrels of oil and gas – and add up to £150 billion to the UK’s economy. Shell announced it has abandoned construction of one of Europe’s largest biofuel plants in the Netherlands, as it focuses on its fossil fuels business. Faced with weak market conditions, the company last year suspended construction of the renewables biofuel factory in Rotterdam that was intended to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and diesel from waste. The project was first announced in 2021 as part of plans to help Europe meet internationally binding emissions reduction targets.
Shell and rival UK energy giant BP have been walking back various climate objectives and focusing more on oil and gas to raise their profits, which has drawn criticism from environmental activists.
More than half of the facility’s capacity was intended to produce SAF — a biofuel made from plant and animal materials like cooking oil and fat which produces lower carbon emissions than traditional jet fuel.
Under plans to tackle climate change, the EU requires airlines to gradually increase the amount of SAF they use to power planes.
Airlines, however, complain that SAF is not widely available and too expensive. Read More

Eni announced the official launch of the tree-planting campaign under the Conservation & Restoration of Classified Forests (CRCF) project in the Massa-Mé forest, one of the 14 forests identified by the initiative. This marks the operational start of a forest conservation and restoration project developed jointly with Ivorian institutions. The aim is to contribute to the fight against deforestation, protect biodiversity, and create lasting value for local communities.
The project is part of the United Nations’ REDD+ program – Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation – which Côte d’Ivoire joined in 2011 to counteract the loss of its forest heritage. Over the past century, the country has experienced a reduction of more than 90% of its forest cover, mainly due to human activities, urban expansion, and illegal logging, with significant consequences for biodiversity and the forests’ ability to absorb CO₂. The tree-planting campaign in Massa-Mé represents the first implementation phase of a 30-year project (2025–2055) involving 14 classified forests in the Lagunes and Comoé districts, covering a total area of approximately 155,000 hectares. The plan was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Forests on behalf of the Ivorian government and is set to become one of the region’s most significant Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) initiatives. U.S. manufacturing contracted for a 6th straight month in August as factories dealt with the fallout from the Trump administration’s import tariffs, with some manufacturers describing the current business environment as “much worse than the Great Recession.”
The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) survey on Tuesday also showed some manufacturers complaining that the sweeping import duties were making it difficult to manufacture goods in the United States. President Donald Trump has defended his protectionist trade policy, which has raised the nation’s average tariff rate to the highest in a century, as necessary to revive a long-declining U.S. industrial base. OPEC+ reportedly will consider further raising oil production at a meeting on Sunday, two sources familiar with the discussions said, as the group seeks to regain market share. Another boost would mean that OPEC+, which pumps about half of the world’s oil, would be starting to unwind a second layer of output cuts of about 1.65 million barrels per day, or 1.6% of world demand, more than a year ahead of schedule.
Eight OPEC+ countries are due to hold an online meeting to decide output for October on Sunday.
There is also a chance, some analysts and an OPEC+ source said, that OPEC+ could pause the increases for October.
A final decision has not been made, the OPEC+ source said. Read More
