Automotive history is diverse and colourful. This is also to be understood quite literally, as the fascinating colours, shades and contrasts in the Mercedes-Benz Museum exhibition show. However, many people are affected by colour blindness (colour vision deficiency) and cannot perceive the full range of hues and shades. Various forms of red-green colour blindness, referred to by experts as “anomalous trichromacy”, are particularly common with one in 12 men (8 per cent) and one in 200 women (0.5 per cent) affected. For visitors with this limitation, the Mercedes-Benz now offers the public special glasses of the company EnChroma. These glasses very precisely filter a small part of the colour spectrum from the visible light, making it possible to see an expanded range of distinct, vibrant colour. The result is a much more colourful and contrast-rich perception of the surroundings. Adults and children can now borrow these special aids to colour vision, free of charge, for their visit to the exhibition. Read More

Toyota Motor Europe and VDL Groep announced last May, the companies have now launched their first fuel cell demo truck. By integrating Toyota’s fuel cell technology into VDL heavy-duty trucks, Toyota aims to decarbonise its logistic operations in Europe.
This first demo truck will be used to perform road testing and evaluation of improvements towards the next steps of the project. VDL Groep is preparing four more fuel cell trucks, which will be used by Toyota’s logistic providers VOS Transport Group, CEVA, Groupe CAT and Yusen. These transportation companies will greatly contribute to the project by using the hydrogen trucks on their daily logistics routes passing by Belgium (Antwerp), France (Lille), Germany (Cologne), and the Netherlands (Amsterdam and Rotterdam). The four routes have at least one hydrogen refuelling station (HRS) each, including back-up solutions.
The cooperation between all parties is expected to consolidate the learnings on how to deploy fuel cell trucks on public roads and contribute to Europe’s ecological energy transition. The 5-year trial is expected to stimulate the further development of a sustainable hydrogen infrastructure across Europe meeting the AFIR requirements and allow for more carbon neutral hydrogen mobility solutions to emerge. This project is complementing Toyota’s initiatives to decarbonise logistics and supporting their long-term goal to become fully carbon-neutral by 2040. Beyond the electrification of passenger cars, the company sees high value in collaborating with multiple partners to accelerate the transition to a sustainable and accessible zero-emission hydrogen economy. It is therefore partnering with companies from all mobility sectors and with different skills in order to test and provide reliable and efficient solutions. Read More
DNO Makes Play-Opening Discovery at Norma
Oslo, 19 September 2023 – DNO ASA, the Norwegian oil and gas operator, today announced a gas condensate discovery on the Norma prospect in the Norwegian North Sea license PL984 in which the Company holds a 30 percent operated interest.
Preliminary evaluation of the discovery indicates gross recoverable resources in the range of 25-130 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) on a P90-P10 basis, with a mean of 70 MMboe, in a Jurassic reservoir zone with high quality sandstones. Located 20 kilometers northwest of the Balder hub and 30 kilometers south of the Alvheim hub, Norma is situated in an area with extensive infrastructure in the central part of the North Sea, with tie-back options offering potential routes to commercialization.
Also within the same license, DNO has identified additional exploration prospects that have been considerably de-risked by the Norma results.
“Coming on the heels of our six Troll-Gjøa area discoveries since 2021, three of which were made this year including Carmen, Heisenberg and Røver Sør, Norma opens up an exciting new play for DNO in the North Sea,” said Executive Chairman Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani. “At the risk of hoodooing our crack explorationists, the string of recent discoveries validates DNO’s offshore Norway exploration strategy,” he added.
Drilled to a vertical depth of 4,800 meters with the Deepsea Yantai drilling rig, Norma is DNO’s first operated high-pressure high-temperature exploration well. At 4,650 meters, the discovery well encountered a 16-meter hydrocarbon column in a 20-meter gross reservoir section in Jurassic sandstones. Several gas condensate samples were collected in the reservoir. In addition, a water sample was acquired. A bypass core of 33.7 meters was secured and an extensive data and sampling program conducted.
This discovery is considered a play-opener for the deep turbiditic sands in this area given the exceptionally good reservoir quality encountered. Plans are underway to further delineate the discovery and the upside potential in the license. Before further appraisal drilling, improved seismic imaging and remapping will be undertaken to identify an optimal location for the next well.
Even with the additional extensive data collection protocols, the Norma well is expected to be finished 15 days ahead of plan and at a cost eight percent below budget. Plug and abandonment operations have commenced this week.
DNO was awarded an interest in PL984 in 2019 through its wholly-owned subsidiary DNO Norge AS. The other partners in the license are Source Energy AS, Equinor Energy AS, Vår Energi ASA (20 percent each) and Aker BP ASA (10 percent).
The Deepsea Yantai will move to drill the Company’s next well, appraising the 2022 Ofelia discovery (DNO 10 percent). Read More
The Johan Castberg partnership, consisting of Equinor, Vår Energi and Petoro, is today updating the project cost estimate. The investment estimate has increased by almost NOK 13 billion since last year.
Our plan for production start in the fourth quarter of 2024 remains unchanged. In 2022, the Johan Castberg hull, including living quarters, was transported from Singapore to Stord for installation and commissioning. The main reason for the rise in the investment estimate from last year is that the workload transferred to Stord has been more comprehensive and complex than estimated. In addition, the project has not progressed as planned. Due to the market cost development the marine operations, drilling and completion costs have also increased.
When the plan for development and operation (PDO) was submitted in 2017, the cost estimate was NOK 57 billion (2023). The updated project cost estimate is now NOK 80 billion. Project costs have risen by NOK 15.5 billion, in addition to a currency effect of just above NOK 7 billion.
Infection control measures and reduced access to labour in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic affected the project, both in Singapore, where the hull and living quarters for the production vessel were constructed, and at Norwegian yards constructing modules for the production facility. Proven volumes in Johan Castberg are estimated at between 450 and 650 million barrels of oil. The vessel is designed for a daily production of close to 190 000 barrels. Read More
