Electroverse skyrockets to 1 million public EV chargers Octopus Energy’s electric vehicle (EV) charging platform, Electroverse, now connects drivers to over 1 million public EV chargers across the globe. Electroverse’s award-winning ‘one card, one app’ model takes the stress out of charging, making it easy for drivers to power up without juggling multiple apps or accounts.
With global EV sales topping 17 million in 2024 – over one in five new cars worldwide – Electroverse is helping accelerate the shift to cleaner transport.* This comes only a couple of months after the UK reached 100,000 public EV chargers, as the country races toward 300,000 public chargers by 2030.** Launched in 2020, Electroverse is already the largest consumer EV charging platform in Europe – and with more than 500 chargers added each day, it continues to grow at record speed.
Drivers can tap and charge at 8 out of 10 public EV charge points across Europe, spanning more than 1,200 brands including industry giants like IONITY, Allego, Aral pulse, TotalEnergies, Mer, Fastned and Powerdot.***
Available in 40 countries and 20 languages, the platform continues to expand, unlocking access to global charging for drivers in locations as far-flung as South Korea, Thailand and the French island of La Réunion.
Drivers appreciate the platform’s user-friendly features – from its slick app and in-car tech to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a built-in route planner, making charging on the go a breeze.
Electroverse is also leading the way in smart pricing. Its innovative ‘Plunge Pricing’ feature offers drivers up to 50% off charging costs when green energy is abundant, encouraging cleaner, smarter charging habits.
Octopus challenges Ofgem’s “policy over people” approach Ofgem has spent two years investigating an alleged issue with prepayment meter bills that had zero customer complaints and had already channeled millions of pounds into customers’ hands.
Ofgem asked Octopus to pay £1.5 million to prepayment customers who had not received ‘final bills’ and to change its billing policy to always issue a final bill for prepayment customers. Octopus has complied with both demands.
However, Ofgem’s ruling that prepayment customers must receive a final bill upon moving out – while sensible in principle – is impossible to implement in most cases, as:
60% of prepayment customers don’t notify Octopus when they move. Most use up their remaining credit or leave it for the next tenant.
Octopus – and other suppliers – rely on slow and unreliable traditional prepayment industry systems for final billing; the customer’s prepayment meter card is the source of information (prepay customers know their balance at all times as it’s on the meter and is needed for top ups).
Octopus only has bank account details for 10% of prepay customers, while 70% of refund cheques go uncashed due to a lack of forwarding addresses.
Only 2% of prepay customers contact Octopus about final bills.
This means that under Ofgem’s rules, only about 16% of prepay customers would actually receive a final statement and any due credit refund.
Instead of following Ofgem’s unrealistic final bill mandate based on unreliable data, Octopus charged prepay customers around £70 below the price cap (unlike other major suppliers), ensuring they are always better off regardless of their tenancy status.
Octopus also leaves any remaining credit on the meter for incoming tenants to use, recognising that outgoing tenants typically use up their credit before moving, or coordinate informally with the incoming tenants.
The company also writes off any debt on the meter when contacted by the incoming tenant.
TRATON GROUP reports unit sales slightly above prior-year level with 80,000 vehicles in the second quarter of 2025 In an uncertain market environment, the TRATON GROUP reported unit sales that were slightly above the prior-year level in the second quarter of 2025. Based on preliminary figures, a total of 80,000 vehicles were sold in the second quarter of 2025, compared to 79,000 vehicles in the prior-year quarter. In the first half of 2025, unit sales came to 153,100, representing a 4% decrease.
Scania Vehicles & Services sold 5% fewer vehicles in the second quarter of 2025 than in the prior-year quarter. In Brazil, elevated dealer stocks, rising interest rates, and high inflation are creating challenging market conditions. This is particularly affecting Scania due to the focus on heavy duty trucks. Unit sales declined by 10% in the first half of the year.
MAN Truck & Bus increased unit sales by 4% in the second quarter of 2025, reflecting the good order momentum of the last two quarters in Europe, especially in Germany. In the first half of 2025, MAN’s unit sales were 5% lower year-on-year.
International Motors saw an increase in unit sales of 10% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the prior-year quarter, which had been affected by a fire at a supplier’s plant. However, the US market faces ongoing uncertainty regarding the impact of import tariffs and the economic outlook. Unit sales fell by 2% at International in the first half of 2025.
Volkswagen Truck & Bus (VWTB) posted a 4% decline in unit sales in the second quarter of 2025. VWTB was also affected by the weakening momentum in the Brazilian market. Nonetheless, VWTB grew unit sales by 6% in the first half of the year due to the strong opening quarter.

The Baleine project: impact on Ivorian energy Eni has successfully launched Phase 3 of the Baleine Project. For Côte d’Ivoire, Baleine plays a fundamental role in meeting domestic energy demand and establishing the country as a regional energy hub. Thanks to cutting-edge technologies, Baleine is a model of excellence in the African landscape, being the first net-zero upstream development on the continent, a blueprint for future low-impact energy initiatives. The use of the FPSO Petrojarl Knong and the FSO Yamoussoukro ensures efficient offshore production, while all processed gas is allocated to the country’s internal consumption, supporting Ivorian energy security and fostering industrial growth. Baleine stands out for its strong sustainability focus, with improved cookstove distribution, forest conservation programmes and community development initiatives, all part of a long-term and responsible presence in the country.
The 21st-century revival of the classic Mille Miglia . The 1000 Miglia Green is long. A thousand miles long, to be precise. Covering dozens of towns from Brescia to Rome (and back again), this is clearly not a trip for the faint of heart. It is a test of stamina and strategy as much as speed. As the route zigzags its way across Italy, the scenery shifts from lush mountain passes to frenzied urban sprawls. It’s mad, chaotic, and completely captivating.
Luckily, we brought three long-range Polestars along for the ride. With each car capable of more than 600 km on a full charge, all models delivered the ideal blend of range, performance, and precision. But, as with everything at Polestar, we brought more than just technical prowess.
Dressed in bespoke racing liveries—including two-tone paint schemes and “dipped” front ends—Collezione Mille celebrates the Mille Miglia’s rich 98-year legacy. The designs extended Polestar’s yellow split-colour theme, first seen in the Arctic Circle Collection at the FAT Ice Race earlier this year.
The 1000 Miglia is a revival of the original Mille Miglia, a legendary endurance race that took place from 1927 to 1957. Today, it is a prestigious historic motoring event, open exclusively to classic cars that participated in, or were eligible for, the original Mille Miglia. The 1000 Miglia Green, held alongside the main event, is dedicated to electric vehicles and sustainable mobility.
A fresh start for Daihatsu In 2023, certification irregularities were uncovered at Daihatsu. In March of the following year, President Masahiro Inoue led the company in launching a new organizational structure, and reforms are currently making steady progress to prevent a recurrence. Amid all this, Toyota Times was contacted by President Inoue, who asked that the team visit Daihatsu’s genba to see the reality on the ground.
Yuta Tomikawa visited Daihatsu headquarters in Osaka in October, 2024. What has the state of mind been in the genba during this period since the issues were discovered?
They reflected on what the real cause was, on the pain of being unable to explain things—to suppliers, customers, or even family—and on the quiet strength they found in themselves in facing the issues head-on. In the video, employees speak openly from the heart.
December 20, 2023 was the day the third-party committee released their audit findings. Daihatsu designated this day as “Fresh Start Day,” and President Inoue called upon all employees to “pledge to prevent recurrences both now and in the future.”
To ensure that every employee understands the certification issues and thinks about how to work in ways that prevent recurrence, Daihatsu established the Koudoukan, a place to think and act. It’s a place to understand the background of the certification issues and learn from case studies.
Two years since the issue came to light, in June 2025, Daihatsu announced the new Move. President Inoue observed, “We’re a carmaker. New cars keep us going.”
Volkswagen US deliveries falls Volkswagen said Wednesday that sales into the United States had taken a hit, underscoring the impact of President Donald Trump’s drastic trade measures.
Total vehicle deliveries into North America fell almost seven percent in the first half of the year, the German group said, even as overall deliveries worldwide notched a rise of 1.3 percent. In the three months to June — a period dominated by the fallout of Trump announcing 25-percent tariffs on cars in late March and further sweeping duties in April — deliveries to North America plunged 16.2 percent.
In China, a key market where European carmakers are struggling against the electric models of local competitors such as BYD, first-half deliveries fell just over two percent.

Nanno Janssen haulage company relies on electric trucks Nanno Janssen Spedition GmbH from Leer in Lower Saxony is fully committed to electromobility. The controllers there exclude adding further diesel trucks to their fleet. The only restriction is that the enterprise also transports hazardous goods class 1 pyrotechnics, which is largely not permitted with an electric truck so far. 27 of the company’s total of 75 trucks are already on the road with electricity, and the number of electric trucks is expected to increase to 50 by the end of the year. More than half of the fleet would have been converted from diesel to electric drive. In mid-June, the family-owned company took over the first five out of ten Mercedes-Benz eActros 600s ordered at the Wörth am Rhein plant. And so many more will be added soon. Just a few days later, the freight forwarder opened its own charging park with a grid output of four megawatts and a total of 20 charging points.
