Latest Energy / Automotive News and Analysis OPEC $71.23/bbl, WTI Crude $67.04/bbl

London, July 11, 2025 (Oilandgaspress) –- Brazil is preparing to defend its oil export sector as U.S. President Donald Trump threatens to impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian imports starting August 1. The move has escalated tensions between the two countries, with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva vowing reciprocal action: “If he charges us 50%, we’ll charge him 50%,” Lula told local media outlet Record. Oil is Brazil’s top export to the United States, and until now it had been exempt from a 10% tariff already imposed on other Brazilian goods. In 2024, Brazil exported a record 1.78 million barrels per day (bpd), of which 243,000 bpd were shipped to the U.S., according to government data compiled by consultancy StoneX. The prospect of a steep tariff on crude has raised concerns about short-term disruption but not long-term damage. Read More

Bentley Announce UK debut of new Bentayga Speed Bentley has returned to the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the marque’s biggest presence to date. A brand new, purpose-built show stand is the largest in Bentley’s Goodwood history, with a 500 square metre footprint, two storeys and using over 200 tonnes of steel in its construction. The stand offers a new level of hospitality and experience for customers and VIP guests at the event, while showcasing the best of Bentley to the event’s 200,000 visitors.

The new Bentayga Speed makes its UK debut at the event, as does the latest coachbuilt car from Mulliner, the Batur Convertible. They are joined by a fleet of over 30 Bentleys converging in Sussex to support the event, with five cars taking part in the Supercar and First Glance batches on the Hillclimb joined by three additional Bentleys acting as Course Cars or offering additional passenger experiences. 18 chauffeur-driven Bentleys are supporting the movements of more than 400 customers, media and VIP guests over the four days of the event.

At the front of the new stand, three of the latest models are on display for everyone to view and interact with. The vibrant Continental GT Speed in Orange Flame provides the perfect canvas to showcase the new carbon Styling Specification that will be available to order later in July along with the newly-announced Akrapovic Titanium sports exhaust. The subtle Black Crystal Flying Spur stands out as a Black Edition with bright Mandarin brake calipers, behind black 22” ten spoke wheels. The contemporary Storm Grey Satin Black Edition Bentayga S not only demonstrates the skills of Crewe’s paintshop technicians, who hand-produced the satin paint effect taking 55 hours, but also shows the Klien Blue optional detailing on offer with Black edition.

Demonstrations are taking place on the stand explaining hand sewing of steering wheels and wood techniques producing veneer examples. Visitors to the stand also have the opportunity to view and purchase items from the Bentley Collection at the stand Boutique.

On the famous hill climb, several modern Bentleys are weaving their way across the 1.2 mile course to the top of the hill. From the Supercar paddock the Scarab Green Bacalar, the first of the modern coachbuilt cars from Mulliner will lead the most recent, the Batur Convertible, making its UK public debut. Following closely up the hill are newest Continental GT Speed, while in the ‘First Glance’ batch, a duo of Speed models including the Bentayga will demonstrate their model name. All of these cars are driven by colleagues from Bentley’s own chassis and powertrain development team, showing the confidence they have in their own products.

Demonstrating Bentley’s harmony of polarities, and acting as a course car, is a Black Edition Bentayga that was used to chauffeur Black Sabbath to their final show six days earlier. The Bentayga will also be accompanied by a Flying Spur Speed and for the first time ever for a number of limited runs, a Bentley Speed Six Continuation Series.

Nissan successfully priced ¥860 billion in bonds Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has successfully priced its US dollar-denominated and euro-denominated bonds, as well as yen-denominated convertible bonds (collectively the “Bonds”), to further enhance liquidity in its automotive business to support the medium and long-term strategies. The total funds raised from the Bonds amounted to approximately 860 billion yen consisting of approximately 660 billion yen for the US dollar-denominated and euro-denominated bonds combined and 200 billion yen in convertible bonds. Nissan’s bond offering was oversubscribed, reflecting the confidence of investors in the Re:Nissan recovery plan. The funds were raised in the longer tenors (4-year to 10-year tenors) to support Nissan’s medium to long-term plans.

Nissan intends to use the net proceeds raised through the US dollar and euro offerings for general corporate purposes and upcoming bond maturities including those in fiscal year 2025. The net proceeds from the convertible bonds are intended to be used by fiscal year 2030 for investments in new products and technologies such as electrification and software-defined-vehicles. The company will continue to strengthen its financing capabilities and maintain strong liquidity in its automotive business to support the goals in Re:Nissan.

Simon Loos Announce First Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 units delivered Mercedes-Benz Trucks has delivered the first eActros 600 units in the Netherlands to logistics provider Simon Loos. Two battery-electric tractor units are now in operation for Lidl’s retail distribution. Simon Loos has ordered a total of 75 eActros 600 trucks for long-haul use, which will double its existing electric truck fleet. With the acquisition of these two units—recently named “International Truck of the Year 2025”— the company marks another milestone on its path toward zero-emission logistics.

Wim Roks, Fleet Manager at Simon Loos, stated:
“After months of intensive testing under various conditions, the two eActros 600 trucks have impressively proven their reliability. We are optimistic about their daily operations. While we previously planned trips of up to 300 kilometers with confidence, the eActros 600 now enables us to cover up to 500 kilometers per trip.”

Joint Practical Experience

Simon Loos and Mercedes-Benz Trucks have been working closely for years to test innovations in real-world conditions. Back in 2020, Simon Loos was the first transport company to deploy a battery-electric eActros 300. In summer 2024, it became the first company outside Germany to begin practical testing of the eActros 600. The professional drivers were specially trained by Mercedes-Benz Trucks for this purpose. The near-series prototype covered 25,000 kilometers within a few months between suppliers and distribution centers, demonstrating strengths in driving comfort, safety, energy consumption, and range. The tests provided valuable insights into vehicle operation and the required charging infrastructure.

Khazna Data Centers and Eni partner to develop 500 MW AI Data Center Khazna Data Centers, a global leader in hyperscale digital infrastructure, and Eni, a global integrated energy company headquartered in Italy, have signed Heads of Terms (“HoT”) to set up a Joint Venture aimed at the development of an “AI Data Center Campus” with a total IT capacity of 500 MW in Ferrera Erbognone, Lombardy.

The project, whose development activities are already underway, is part of the strategic partnership between Italy and the United Arab Emirates launched in February 2025 aimed at installing an overall IT capacity of up to 1 GW in Italy.

The design of the AI Data Center Campus is based on scalable, high-performance computing (HPC), and energy-efficient infrastructure. These principles, shared with the participating institutions, will be the strategic drivers fueling Europe’s digital future, driven by artificial intelligence. The Head of Terms represents a significant step forward in the Campus’s implementation, detailing the key principles, roles, and governance structures of the Eni-Khazna Joint Venture, with the shared goal of accelerating development activities.

The HoT was signed by Khazna CEO Hassan Alnaqbi and Eni COO Global Natural Resources Guido Brusco in the presence of Reem Al Hashimi, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Adolfo Urso, Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. The initiative would combine Khazna’s expertise in advanced data center design and operations with Eni’s leadership in sustainable energy, laying the foundation for a resilient AI ecosystem at the heart of Europe. The Data Center Campus will be fed by “Blue Power” supplied by Eni, a low-carbon electricity source generated by a new high efficiency Gas Power Plant designed to capture the CO2 emissions. This would provide a first-of-a-kind synergy between decarbonized energy and Data Center design in Italy.

China imported over 1.7 mbd of Iranian crude in June—just shy of the March record China’s seaborne crude imports rose to 10.6 mbd in June, up 11% m-o-m and 6% y-o-y, even as ongoing maintenance kept overall refinery throughput at the lower end of the seasonal range.

The increase was largely driven by strong inflows of Middle Eastern grades:

Saudi crude imports climbed to a 30-month high near 2mbd, well above the 1.5bbd average seen in the first five months of the year, following aggressive cuts in May-loading OSPs.
Imports from other non-sanctioned Middle Eastern suppliers—including Iraq, the UAE, and Oman—also rose moderately.
