Tesla’s largest Supercharger hub has been officially launched and it runs on solar power with battery storage. The Lost Hills, California, charging hub has 164 V4 Supercharger stalls, which deliver over 300 kW of electricity each. The new hub is also mostly off-grid.

As explained in an X post, “Our forecasts showed a severe charging infrastructure deficit along the San Francisco – Los Angeles corridor for the 2025 holidays and beyond, creating extreme urgency to bring more Superchargers online. Utility grid connections wouldn’t arrive in time. Doing nothing and letting customers suffer is not an option for @TeslaCharging With our own solar generation and Megapacks, we have control of our timeline, delivering the needed capacity in under 8 months from construction start.” The hub location is about 146 miles north of Los Angeles. Twelve of the charging stalls are drive-through so that EV drivers with trailers can charge more easily.

An 11 MW solar power array generates electricity for the chargers and there are 10 Megapacks with 39 MWh of energy storage.

From the same X post linked above, “Yes, the largest Supercharger in the world is powered by the sun. It’s inspiring for the Tesla teams that worked on it, inspiring for customers, and what had to be done to ensure dependable travel. Happy Thanksgiving!”

At times, it can be difficult to get new EV chargers installed because the permitting and grid connections are tricky in some cases. In other words, the process is typically not speedy. By installing their own solar power source and energy storage to power the new chargers, Tesla bypassed some of the slowness and made haste. There was a clarification on X about another electricity connection. “We have a small utility connection but it will mainly be used for future expansions. For almost every day of the year, it’s 100% sunshine powering cars,” Max Zegher of Tesla wrote.

Of course, there are people who don’t like Elon, so they won’t buy a Tesla vehicle or any other Tesla product. Regardless, the new EV charging hub running on solar power is an achievement for Tesla Charging.
