Komatsu enhances customer experience in Melbourne

Komatsu Australia’s new fulfilment centre in Tarneit, Melbourne has facilitated local support for customers in various sectors since opening its doors in March.

Spanning 12,500m², Komatsu Australia said the centre is powered by the fastest order fulfillment system in the market.

This enables swift and reliable support for customers across Victoria, South Australia, and southern New South Wales, with next-day delivery to all regional branches.

“Leveraging the latest technology, our new facility centres around the implementation of the AutoStore – a high-speed order fulfilment system – which is operated by autonomous robots that move on top of an aluminium cubic grid,” Komatsu Australia said.

The automation system is designed to be energy-efficient, consuming just 3744 kilowatt-hours per year when operational for a 12-hour day, five days a week.

“Sustainability is always a focus for us in all our operations, so any new facility needs to reflect our commitment to reducing our environmental impact,” Komatsu Australia said.

“The build of this centre not only was strategic in how we support customers, but also in how we look to achieve net-zero by 2050.”

With Melbourne on its way to becoming Australia’s largest city, Komatsu spent $9.9 million to construct the centre to strengthen its presence in the state and provide an efficient and streamlined experience for customers ordering Komatsu parts and machinery.

“The facility will also strengthen Komatsu’s e-commerce capabilities, with a larger inventory now housed in Melbourne, customers will benefit from improved efficiencies through myKomatsu as well as seamless click-and-collect services,” Komatsu Australia said.

“The centre will hold 35,000 unique stock items, enhancing availability and reducing lead times.”
