  • This milestone is part of the 2023 deal signed by the companies and envisages a network of 3,500 charging points at 800 supermarkets and workplaces.
  • In 45 minutes, the points can charge 100 km, enough range for the vehicle’s average daily use.

Iberdrola España has installed its first 2,000 charging points at Mercadona supermarkets and workplaces, building the largest semi-fast charging network in Spain. The points, which are located at some 450 of the distribution Group’s locations in all of Spain’s autonomous communities, are part of the collaboration agreement signed by the companies last year to promote sustainable mobility.

With this partnership, Iberdrola España will be responsible for the supply, commissioning and operation of up to 3,500 charging points in 800 supermarkets in Spain and Portugal. With this infrastructure, while shopping users can charge their car batteries with up to 22 kW of power, meaning they will be able to charge 100 km in 45 minutes or, to put it another way, gain sufficient autonomy for an electric vehicle.

The 2,000 charging points are located throughout Spain wherever the leading supermarket chain is present, furthering Iberdrola España’s goal of bringing electric mobility to every corner of Spain to reach full decarbonisation in the industry.

All points use 100% green energy from renewable sources with a guarantee of origin certificate. All points are available on Iberdrola España’s public charging app, the most highly rated in the industry, where you can find and geolocate verified information on all chargers, check their operation in real time and reserve and pay from your mobile phone.

Leaders in sustainable mobility

With this initiative, Iberdrola España continues to accelerate its mobility transition strategy towards an emission-free system and its sustainable mobility plan. Pioneered in 2016, it plans to install 100,000 electric chargers by 2025 in homes, businesses and on public roads. Its public infrastructure design is being developed on highways and major arteries as well as in cities and small towns with the goal of having at least one fast charging station every 50 km or less.

Iberdrola España is a leader in charging infrastructure with a network of more than 50,000 operational charging points, 6,500 of which are public, and promotes sustainable mobility as part of its strategy to drive the energy transition.
