London, 09 August, 2023, (Oilandgaspress) Hyundai Mobis opened a large-scale overseas order in the electrification business, a key field of future mobility. This is a large-scale order for electrification parts targeting global major finished car brands, and it is an achievement that has been recognized in the global market for its competitiveness in mass production of electrification parts accumulated over 10 years.
Hyundai Mobis announced on the 9th that it has recently succeeded in winning an order for a battery system (BSA), a key component for electrification, from Volkswagen, a German automaker. The battery system won by Hyundai Mobis will be installed on Volkswagen’s next-generation electric vehicle platform.
Battery System Assembly (BSA) refers to a complete product that combines electronic components and a battery management system (BMS) with a battery pack so that the battery can operate safely and efficiently in an electric vehicle. A high-capacity, high-efficiency battery system is a key component that determines the quality and performance of an electrified vehicle. Hyundai Mobis has a portfolio of battery systems that can be applied to all eco-friendly vehicles, including hybrid and electric vehicles.
Hyundai Mobis plans to supply battery systems by establishing a new production base near a finished car plant in Spain after receiving approval from the board of directors within this year. Hyundai Mobis is currently operating battery system production lines in Korea, China, and the Czech Republic, and is building new electrification bases in the United States and Indonesia. With this order, Hyundai Mobis has secured a stable foundation to target the global electrification market in major regions of the world. It is evaluated that the expansion of global production bases through such preemptive investments and aggressive marketing centered on local customer-only sales organizations were effective in winning this large-scale electrification parts order.
With this large-scale overseas order, Hyundai Mobis expects to win additional orders for electrification parts in the global market. This is because global automakers are investing heavily in the transition to electrification to preoccupy the future mobility market. Starting with the operation of the Chungju Plant, a factory dedicated to eco-friendly vehicle parts, in 2013, Hyundai Mobis has accumulated know-how and quality competitiveness in mass production of core electrification parts for more than 10 years.
