This foldable solar panel and charge controller from Renogy might be just what you need to enhance your car camping, RVing, van-life, overlanding, hunting, boating, or building a cabin in the woods (or a tiny house in your backyard), as it can generate clean electricity for charging vehicle batteries or other portable power solutions. And at its current 40% off sale price, it’s a very affordable entry-level solar setup, which makes it a good candidate for emergency prep kits.
This portable solar ‘suitcase’ from Renogy measures only 24.8″ x 20″ x 2.8″ when folded up, and weighs just 26.6 lb, so it’s not difficult to store or transport, but once deployed facing the sun and positioned with the integrated kickstands for optimal exposure, is capable of producing 500Wh per day. When connected to the waterproof 20A charge controller, which features 4-stage charging for 12V batteries, the setup can be used to charge vehicle, RV, or marine batteries, or even portable power stations and more. It can also be added onto with additional solar panels to build a larger system, and at its current sale price of just $149 (regularly $250), it might be worth buying a few of them for emergency preparedness kits (and maybe for gifting to people that you know who could really use a hint about being prepared, even if just for a power outage).
[Note: This kit is rather basic in terms of connecting to anything other than a 12V vehicle battery, with alligator clips being the default, so you may need other adapters, or a specific adapter, plus longer cables, to connect it to a different format of battery or power station.]
