Chalice Mining is progressing a pre-feasibility study (PFS) at its Gonneville nickel-cobalt-copper-palladium project near Perth, Western Australia.
Chalice’s focus on its ongoing PFS includes:
- the completion of detailed metallurgical test work to determine geo-metallurgical domains
- assessing the viability and cost of selective open-pit and underground mining methods for the development phase of the project
- defining and costing key infrastructure requirements and finalising the selection of a commercial/delivery model.
It is estimated that the PFS will cost approximately $15 million to complete, comfortably covered by Chalice’s cash and investments balance.
Chalice will also look to consult with the Federal Government to maximise eligibility and processing under the Government’s proposed Production Tax Incentive.
The incentive was announced as part of the Federal Government’s 2024–25 Budget and will provide a production incentive valued at 10 per cent of relevant processing and refining costs for Australia’s 31 critical minerals.
Currently, Chalice is undergoing state and Commonwealth regulatory approvals for Gonneville with the aim of commencing production in 2029.
The company is also on the look out for a partner for Gonneville.
“Chalice commenced a process in April 2023 to attract a Tier-1 strategic partner for Gonneville with the financial, technical, and marketing capabilities to assist Chalice in developing the project,” the company said.
“Chalice remains in active discussions as part of this partnering process, however there can be no guarantee at this time of a transaction.”
