GMC is not the company that comes to mind at first when you think about electric vehicles, but it is actually doing quite well on moving them out the door.

In fact, GMC sells just 5 models, and two of them are full electrics. Its legendary Hummer is now only available as an EV, which explains why I see them all over the place now and almost never see a non-electric Hummer.

As indicated in the title, with the US EV tax credit expiring on September 30, GMC pushed a lot more EVs out the door — 83.7% more than in the 3rd quarter of 2024. The brand sold 8,620 EVs, compared to 4,692 the year before. Sales of the GMC Hummer EV grew 21.9%, while sales of the GMC Sierra EV grew 771.8%. That said, Q3 2024 was the Sierra EV’s first quarter on the market.

However, even with the sales surge, GMC’s EVs only accounted for 5.2% of GMC’s total sales in the 3rd quarter. Not that impressive, but, hey, who has actually been able to make a big splash in the pickup truck market so far?

Naturally, the 3rd quarter was a record sales quarter for both of GMC’s electric models. As with the other auto brands, the question is whether GMC will be able to build on that and sell several thousand EVs a quarter going forward. For that matter, when will GMC be able to break the 10,000 EVs a quarter barrier? Any guesses?
